I was diagnosed last year in an endoscopy that I had mild gastritis. My first symptoms began 5 years ago and it's come and gone (right now I'm in a bad flare). But what was so weird was I got it while on Prilosec at the time and since then, no PPI hasn't really been effective. Currently I'm on Prilosec again, but what I'm wondering is if these drugs can actually cause gastritis. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Shortcake, I am not sure if PPIs can cause gastritis but I think that to effectively treat gastritis you need to take Carafate (Sucralfate), DGL, Slippery Elm, or active manuka honey in addition to the PPI so they can coat the stomach lining and protect it from the acid thus curing the gastritis. Of course, all of these will do no good if the cause of the gastritis such as a H. Pylori, aspirin, bile reflux, or even alcohol are not eliminated.
