When I first started taking B-5 a year ago, I asked my internal physician if it was safe and at what dosages. He said Pantothenic Acid, along with other water-soluble vitamins are safe up to 10 grams daily.
Like you said though, people are different and their bodies tolerate vitamins/minerals/medication differently so your advice for caution is hopefully well-heeded.
