It really depends on the individual. You may clear up for good next week , or never. The key is control. You have to find whatever works for you, and stick with it.

Also, men seem to clear up (usually), while predominately women suffer from adult acne(30+).

I'm a 34 year old mom and I've been struggling with mild/moderate acne since I was 13. I can go months and be completely clear and then all of a sudden have a flare up. I'm never sure what the trigger is. I'm pretty sure that it is hormonal though because it's around my chin and jaw line. Also, I had flawless skin during both my pregnancies and for months after too. I loved being pregnant!

I'm a 22 year old male and it seems to just get worse. I never really had acne though until I was 19 or 20.

i loved being pregnant too !! my face was FLAWLESS... even the few scars i had were almost gone.... i have controlled my acne now with proactiv... but, i do get the occasional pimple here and there... and low and behold... its usually around "that" time of the month.....

i had mild acne at 13.... only for about a year... (so high school for me wasn't horrible)... but, then when i was 21 i had moderate acne.... till i was about 27.... (i was pregnant twice in between those years so for 18 months my skin was perfect).... anyway, im 32 now.... and although my skin has "calmed" down... i do still use proactiv everyday.... and i still do get that "occasional" pimple.... my mother and sister both had acne when they were younger... neither one of them get any now... and they're 39 and 66.... soooooooo.... i'm crossing my fingers that my days of any acne are coming to an end....

Question

I wish I knew the answer to this too!!! I am 22 and still get the occasional pimple...which is very annoying as I have had them since I was like 15 so it doesnt seem very fair! I thought adulthood would mean great skin but I guess i was wrong... (d'oh)

Yeah, and the cure will probably cost $5,000 a month .Either that or it will be some sort of vaccine to prevent it that is only given as a shot to young children.

Angry

I am a 36 year old male and I have been fighting terrible cystic acne on my back since I was 13 years old. I did a 5 month accutane treatment when I was 30 - it was HELL. My lips are still chapped. The acne did all clear up, but then two years later it started up again and is now as bad as it has ever been. Dr just started me on RETIN-A MICR GEL 0.1%, but it is nearly impossible to effectively apply it to my back - I too hate taking my shirt off anywhere public :-(

I am the granny here --a 46 year old mom. I started at 35. Never had it as a teen. Am still fighting it. My 15 yr. old has acne and is also being treated. His face has cleared up somewhat with meds but has body acne and he says he can live with that because he can hide it. What a nice bonding moment when we go to the doctors together for our zits! LOL
