Unhappy Constipation & Acne-Clogged at both ends!

Has anyone ever heard that these two go hand & hand, or face & butt, however you wanna look at it? Seems like I've always had acne in diiferent degrees all my life and have had trouble "going" all of my life. Both my brothers have no skin problems OR constipation. Hmmmmm.........

Well, I've never really been that constipated but ever since I started drinking Aloe Vera Juice every day, my bowels feel much cleaner and have movements more frequently. Usually twice a day. I recommend that to all.

Good luck!

I use to notice that I broke out more when constipated which was a daily issue for me.I took herbal colon cleansers and acidolpholis to solve the problem but now I can't take my herbal colon cleanse because it interferes with Spironolactone so I don't know WHAT to do now? Also , I can't take Ibuprofen for my PMS and depression because it interferes with Spiro too.So, what do I do about this huge depression I'm getting from PMS ? St.JohnsWort,Valerian,Kava kava all give me headaches and I'm allergic to Hops so I don't know what to do.

This constipation-acne thing might be true. I actually heard somewhere, that acne might be a side effect for people with constipation problems. I've been seriously constipated for about two years and got baaaaaaaaad acne for one year. I was always constipated, even as a baby, instead of diarrhea, my mom had to pull out little rocks from my butt. I got very minor acne, since I was nine. I told my internal specialist doctor about these problems. So she took samples..., but found nothing. The only thing for my constipation that works is a strong cup of coffee with milk in the morning. I go within 30 minutes, if noone is stressing me out and I cannot be nervous about anything either. If yes, I will not go the whole day. I know, the coffee is not very good for you and I don't even like it, but aloe vera juice? What does that taste like and where can you purchase it?

I gorgot to mention. When constipated, your body is not getting rid of the wastes that are comming out with your stool. So they come out through zits... It kind of makes sense.

How much Aloe Vera Juice do you drink each day? Have you noticed any other effects from it? Do you think it has helped your face?

dsheldon3--How does a colon cleanse interfere with Spiro? You seem to know alot about the drug. I have been taking it for about 14 days and haven't seen that much improvement, maybe a little. Can you please let me know what other info. you have on things that can affect it. thank you

The particular colon cleanse I have has Licorice in it and Licorice will block the antiandrogen effect of Spiro. It also has Uva Ursi which is not good.As for others like psyllium, cascara and senna,I'm not completely sure yet as to their safety am still researching it.So far Fennel seems to be safe though.Other herbs that are unsafe are dandelion, Magnesium, juniper, buchu, cleavers, horsetail, and gravel root.

Also do not use over-the-counter products that increase blood pressure. These include cough or cold remedies, diet pills, stimulants, ibuprofen or like products.

My face has improved in the last three weeks or so but I am not sure if it is due to the Aloe vera Juice. I will make a post in a couple weeks on what I have been doing and the results I have seen with my current regimen.

I purchased my Fruit of the Earth 99.9% Aloe Vera Juice at Superstore in Alberta Canada. Im sure you can purchase it online if you cannot find in your local stores.

Best of luck!

Psyllium is safe as long its not take within a few hours of taking Spiro as it might decrease the absortption of it.

Ds,
I've been on Spiro for over 4 years now and I've never had complications with anything else I've taken. I do watch and research any herbs or other supplements I will take beforehand and Fennel doesn't interfere. I wouldn't know if Licorice root does or not (there was a reason I didn't want to try this though), but it wouldn't really matter since the cleanse would be done...once a month or something, right???

I will tell you that I have't always been faithful when taking this because at 200mg dosage (first 3 years, now 150mg) I was prone to urinate more and feel a bit tired and dehydrated. Of course since this is used to releive blood volume, that makes sense. However, we aren't using spiro to treat High Blood pressure so taking Ibuprofen, etc should not and have't posed a problem for me. Especially since once again, it will only be used for a few days each month. =)

When you say PMS, what do you mean exactly? Cramps or moodiness only? So do what you need to do to cleanse and rid yourself of PMS. It either won't affect the anti-androgenic properties at all or enough considering the duration of those treatments.

Night night
=)

P.S. Yes there is a constipation-acne connection and a few people on this board cleared up once they started taking specific medication or other treatments to end their constipation =)

I do wanna mention that I found this aloe vera distilled water(which takes just like water-not bitter) that has helped the bowel situation if I take it religously. It is by George's...do a search. It's found in health food stores or on line.

Hi SweetJade,I was wondering if you were still taking the Spiro or not as it was you who really inspired me into thinking about taking it. Are you sure that Ibuprofen won't effect the Spiro cause I read at this one site where they talked about the use of Spiro as an antiandrogen and they said (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Rufen, others), ketoprofen (Orudis, Orudis KT, Oruvail), and naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox)and other similar prescription NSAIDs may decrease the effects of spironolactone and may increase the risk of damage to your kidneys.
So, I was kind of leary on taking it as before and during my period my face is a can of Crisco and I need all the Spiro I can get at that time.I usually take the Ibuprofen quite a few days during that time so it would be great to be able to take the Ibuprofen.I get so parenoid about the effects of mixings drugs.About the Colon cleanses,I usually do them every other day cause it just makes me feel better and I know it helps my acne some.
As far as PMS, I get it all ,sharp pains, cramps, headaches, depression.I took some progesterone for it a few months ago .I didn't know whether it was safe or not as I had read progesterone can be turned into testosterome and into androgens. And I was thinking androgens can cause acne. But then I kept reading at these websites that sold progesterone that it could actually help acne besides all the other benefites. So I was confused but thought I'd go a head and try the progesterone.Well, that was a BIG mistake!Although it totally eliminated ALL my PMS and made me feel GREAT ,my body turned every bit of it into testosterone and I had the biggest acne breakout in history ! My face is a complete disaster now.
