How long does it take for oiliness to come back after accutane?

My derm said I can start accutane in a few weeks if I want to. I have tried every medication out there and I have mild yet very persistent acne. It just won't go away. I also have very oily skin. I just want normal skin for once, you know, to wake up in the morning without dripping of oil, or without feeling like an oil slick by the end of the day. But, I keep hearing about how a lot of people have problems with their oily skin coming back after treatment. How many of you on here have had that to happen, and how long was it before your oily skin came back? Should I even take such a health risk since I don't have severe acne (even though it is severe to me)? I would love to hear some of your experiences.

Accutane is pretty safe as long as u are monitored. It shrinks and puts ure pores to sleep. Usually you return almost back to normal in a month after ure done with the course. But with less oil than b4 starting the course. Good Luck, millions of people have taken it.

My skin started to get really oily and started to break out all over again after about 6 months. I was extremely disappointed....

Re: How long does it take for oiliness to come back after accutane?

I hope I can be as lucky as you yuly333. I also think accutane could minimize my oil production and hence, less acne. I hear ya about persistent acne. You could be OK for 2 days, and then NOT ANYMORE. The cycle goes on and on and on......And topical is useless because you are not treating the problem, which is overproduction of oil. Treating what you see is useless. Three blemishes fade while 4 more comes up in different place. You are not going anywhere or making any progress.

I bet I am as oil slick as you, especially in a hot day. What have you tried prior to this?

Re: How long does it take for oiliness to come back after accutane?

Took about 5 to 6 months after stopping accutane before my oil (and acne) came back. Those 6 months were pretty good though. I mean, I had lost a lot of weight and my face was so dry that I had to put lotion on it everyday, which kinda sucked, but the clearness was awesome. It's a very good feeling to wake up and not have any new pimples on your face. But then again, you have to be prepared to possibly get your acne back again, which can really hit you hard. It's not easy to be clear for the first time in forever and then have your acne come back. But overall, I'm glad I took it. My acne is more manageable now, and I'm not having the massive scarring that I was before accutane.

Good to hear ofcourse accutane is not perfect. I know when i get clear and if it comes back im going to take another course which has a better chance of curing it forever.
