CYSTS - ice or heat???

When I get a cyst the entire surrounding area swells up sooo much, enough to make my face look disfigured sometimes!! I have no idea why this happens because the swelling happens before I even have a chance to be tempted to squeeze or anything...

What is the final verdict on reducing the swelling, ice or heat?? I have always used ice, but I'm not sure if it actually does a thing in the end... are hot compresses better for cysts? What am I supposed to do to bring the swelling down?

i don,t suffer with cysts but i do get the under the skin type swellings that never come to a head and i have found the following a good way of reducing them overnight.
Apply Hydrocortisone 1% to the area surrounding the centre of the cyst
Follow with B.P 10%
Pop an ibuprofen 400mg tablet

This always helps me good luck
By the way i have also found hot compresses work better for me rather than cold

Hot will be much better that cold compresses. The heat helps bring the cyst to a head. I usually put a hot washcloth on a cyst twice a day for 10 minutes and it's "poppable" in about 2 or 3 days.

Re: CYSTS - ice or heat???

When I used to get cysts, I'd take an ibuprofen and put ice on the cyst. It reduced the swelling somewhat and the pain definitely subsided. I tried putting a hot compress on it but it made it even redder and it never came to a head.
