Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

I've been trying to stop taking in too much sugar from sports drinks and candy. I started eating 2 oranges a day for a couple of days.

Now, my skin is extremely unclear, and I didn't know why. Now, I figure out that oranges cause acne.

Damnit! I ate three donus today, yesterday, and the day before (I'm really skinny, though)

Looks like my skin is going to be in pain for a while

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

There's no clinical evidence that there is a connection between oranges and acne, or any other foods causing acne. Unless your allergic to oranges, I don't see how it could have caused it. Perhaps it was acne under the skin and it's just surfacing now, so now it looks like oranges are the culprit. If you feel like oranges are the cause then just stop eating them.

Openseason, the things you say come from where? It makes no sense to me that someone trying to engage in good eating habits would substitute kitkats in place of oranges.

Sadly it isn't humor. Him or her always says things that are off-topic.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but the past week my skin has been really red, more breakouts and itching. After reading your post I realized that I've been eating clementines like crazy because I bought a huge box about a week ago and I love them. So I'm not gonna eat anymore and see what happens. I already feel a difference in the redness and itching from not eating them today...I may just be fooling myself .

I've recently been eating oranges and now I have a breakout which is unusual for me. Could be coincidence though. I'm still going to lay off those oranges!

And I can prove it. In the Godfather movie Don Corleone has a heart attack when he has oranges stuffed in his mouth.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

Its just a coincedince. Actually drining lots of OJ helps your skin, so that would mean eating oranges will help improve your skin, if it doesn't it sure doesn't make it worse. I remember when I went on vacation to Mexico, I drank lots of orange juice, boy was it sure good, I also didn't eat lots of junk food like Mcdonalds, pizza(lol, Im the type of person who eats pizza and burgers)because there wasn't any in Mexico :P,also I drink lots and lots of pop. So during this two week vacation I didn't really eat nothing but some tacos and orange juice and the occasional beer :P. I really didn't notice anything about my face until when I got home. My sister told me what did I do cause my skin was clear. So I take a look and hey what do you know she was right. All of my sisters and friends told me something look different and that it was my face, and that I look better, boy this sure boosted my confidence.

Well this concludes, that Im pretty sure eating or drinking lots of OJ will help clear up your skin, and also by staying away from junk food and fast food, also pop. Too bad my skin right now isn't like it was due to going back to the same route of eating junk food. Im now going to stop eating all that stuff, and stay away from pop and junk food and head towards lots of water,OJ and fruit.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

Everyone is different & their reactions to certain foods are different. I used to break out after eating oranges as well & it took me a long time to figure that out. I don't eat them anymore & for the past several months my skin has been pretty clear. Oranges are acidic & the acid in them along with the sugar can aggravate acne. The artificial ingredient citric acid that is added to a lot of juice drinks & tart foods can cause acne outbreaks. You are not crazy & people should be respectful when you let them know that you believe something might break you out. Nuts are supposed to be healthy but for some people they can die if they eat them, is that a laughing matter? Don't think so. It is the same with eggs for others.

I have done extensive reading & research over the years to find out what aggravated my acne & I learned that wheat, acidic foods, eating a lot of refined sugar, & eating a lot of sodium can cause acne. I eat a lot of healthy food & watch offending foods but I don't go overboard & eliminate all food which it seems like some acne sufferers do. I eat grapes, blueberries, strawberries, cantelope, chicken from health food stores, beef from health, food stores, seafood from health food stores, vegetables, & occasionally non-wheat bread. I don't eat a lot of dairy products like yogurt or milk because for one I am lactose intolerant & two I found that I would get acne after eating those. I just try to eat balanced meals without a lot of sugar or salt & I drink purified water. I stopped taking all vitamins because I found that they surprisingly had a lot of ingredients in them that would break me out (i.e. small white bumps around chin area shortly after taking them). I love to shop at whole foods, the good food store, & other stores that carry food without excessive hormones, steroids, pesticides, hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, high fructose, & other filler ingredients that were not in food probably 30 years ago. Have you looked around to notice that a lot of people have acne now & probably more than ever. I hardly see people with flawless skin anymore & I link it to what we are eating & to the environment.

I just wash my face with lukewarm water & without a cleanser. I use the epidermx microdermabrasion cream which to my surprise & shock has done wonders for my skin. I don't use the camilia oil that they recommend with it because I discovered that it contains a high concentration of stearic acid which is well known for breaking skin out. It feels nice but after a few days tiny white bumps would appear. The epidermx cream did what it said it would do for me & I was shocked at how much dead skin came off my face the first week. It didn't make it rough like peels can do & the peeling wasn't bad at all because the dead skin just rinsed off. You have to follow the directions exactly & you can't overdo it as they state. I also use the super CP serum at night which is working amazingly for me to keep breakouts away & if I do get a few they literally heal within a day or so with that. The combination of those two things has really worked & I am keeping myself clear. Sometimes during the day I will use the exfol serum which works as slight moisturizer for my skin without all the extra breakout ingredients. I am keeping it simple & that seems to be working consistently for me. I don't post on here at all anymore because my skin has cleared a lot but I do read from time to time. I just responded because I saw your post about oranges & how people weren't believing you. Oranges also cause problems with acid reflux in some people & they are asked not to drink it. Banana's break me out as well. Good luck to you.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

oranges are abundant in vitamin c. They include natural sugar that come with fruit and that aren't processed and natural vitamin c, which is an antioxidant that helps your skin. it also supports your immune system. why not take it?

just try it for yourself and experiment. Don't eat oranges for 3 weeks and in one day eat maybe 4 oranges. See if you get acne. i dunno i guess people can break out from anything.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

If you guys are talking about the actual "cause" none of you have touched on this.

The actual cause is genetic -- the epithelial cells in the canals of the pores don't slough off naturally, so they clog up the pores.

There are also secondary causes -- after the pore is closed, bacteria propagate, enzymes are released, pus builds up, mites get ticked off, etc.

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

If the cause is genetic then why did my acne go away when I changed my diet? Did my genes change?

Re: Wait wait wait.... Oranges cause acne?

Your genes did not change. You (genius) have found the cause of acne which is food. Cells breaking off and cloging the oil canal, visible with a microscope, obvious to anyone who looks, that could not possibly cause acne.
