Re: Adult Acne

Not to beat a dead horse, but I did a search and found this great thread on Accutane - http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=196774&page=1&pp=5&high light=accutane+success

It seems the majority of people are young or used it when they were young, but the info still is what it is and there is a ton of it. There is no harm in reading. Take care.

Re: Adult Acne

I started with acne at age 12, and continued until age 18 when I went on BC pills. Miracle cure for me! Went off pills at 26, stayed acne free until age 35, went back on pills, cured me again. I am now 49 still on pill, (they should do a study on me, I have been on pill for almost half my life!!) and acne free, skin is still very oily, but no crowmarks and very few wrinkles. People usually guess my age to be in mid-30s. So there is some consolation for having oily skin! Have pock scar marks though which seem to look worse, maybe my skin is sagging! I now watch my daughters suffer from acne, it breaks my heart to see them suffer and lose self esteem -think it is harder in todays society to deal with not being perfect that it was when i was their age.

Re: Adult Acne

I'm almost 24 and have been suffering from acne since 17, ever since I began to use those cursed Oxy pads. I have been on and off Diane-35 for almost 4 years, and while it has kept my skin relatively clear during this time, my skin has never been completely free of acne. Right now, I'm suffering from a serious winter breakout, but I'm keeping myself positive.

Recently, I've began seeking help from an Eastern medicine practitioner. She checked my stress, hormones and toxic levels, and discovered my toxic levels were sky high. This could be due to the BCP. My heart, liver and lungs are supposedly quite healthy. We're working on a detoxification regimen. She also offers accupunture, at a reasonable price, but she says I may not need to try it. I've just started taking some medicine to improve my bowel movements.

Tomorrow is my first day off the pill as my period is due. I am considering stopping it altogether after this week. The practitioner is a specialist at treating acne so I have faith in her.

I hope it works... and I hope whatever regimens or treatments you are all trying will work for you too! Happy NY!

Re: Adult Acne

Hi all

This is a great thread. I'm 35 and don't have acne any more - I just have absolutely ****** skin from years outbreaks and picking in my teens - scars, scarred pores, pits, open pores, discolouration. Horrible. I hate being the only person my age I know with such crap skin. I hate never having the courage to step outside the front door without makeup. I hate looking up close in mirrors.

The good news is that I've discovered Epidermx, glycolic acid peels, and copper peptides - all of which are really helping with with my scars, pits and discolouration. I used to get the occasional pimple or 2 but I don't even get that now. Fortunately I have the sort of skin that can tolerate anything with no adverse reactions - the downside is that most products don't have any effect on my skin whatsoever.

Someone said something about personality being more important than looks. Well I've got a good personality and I'm told I'm attractive but at the end of the day I've got crap skin so it's kind of irrelevant to me. When I look in the mirror all I see is bad bad bad skin. Period.

Having said all this, I am convinced that one day I will have really good skin - the fact that it hasn't happened in over 20 years is a minor issue! I am ever hopeful!

Good luck all and take care.

Re: Adult Acne

I can feel like the rest of you, I have tried everything out there thus far, and to no avail, it hasn't helped me at all, and most of the meds from the dermatolgists have either burned my skin, or dried my face out, I can't use anything, I find that if I try and keep my stress levels down and just use plain water, that seems to do the trick, and the blackheads from hell, OMG I just keep picking them out, nothing works for me, I even tried to change my diet, because I suffer from IBS, so if anyone out there can help any of us, PLEASE do! I am 38, and I almost give up on the acne thing, I guess there isn't any cure for me, I have had acne since I was 10!

Re: Adult Acne

Baby G- Please let us know if Eastern Medicine works for ya. I am having hormonal issues too at age 39 and i am scheduled to see an endocrinologist 1-20. I am really interested in herbal treatments at this point in my life, so I would really like a follow up too if your specialist is helping you or not. I had been using ProActiv for mild acne the last 6 years and it was working great. My skin was beautiful. Then, all of a sudden my skin started to reject the product and I mistakenly applied Cory MMU on my face to cover two blemishes without protecting my face and WHAM my face exploded. So now I am broken out on the places where I applied the MMU. Chin, cheeks. I think the MMU went into my pores!!! I can't stand it!

Baby-G, chocolate? Chocolate?? Chocolate!! Oh gosh, nooooooooo! There has to be an easier way! lolol! If Ben and Jerry's icecream is also on your list please don't tell me! Icecream is more of a treat than a dessert right? You can't call icecream a real dessert can you - unless it's got some sort of fruity sauce on it with cherries on top? Please say icecream isn't a dessert? Lie to me if necessary. All lies where icecream is concerned will be gratefully accepted. Thankyou.

Re: Adult Acne

Hi Baby-G,
Can you tell me what exactly are you doing as part of your herbal cure? Are you taking any supplements, or is it only diet-based?
Thanks!

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but as the list mentioned no desserts, and no cold drinks, I'm assuming ice cream is out since it's somewhere inbetween. I'm a huge ice cream fan too and could easily get thru a tub of Strawberry Haagen Dazs a day, but now... Actually, I am eliminating all cold foods out of my diet too. It's no fun at all.

Thanks!
This makes me sound ever so stupid but I have no idea what I'm taking! The practitioner said the first step was to reduce the toxins in my body and gave me some herbal powdered medicine, to which I add to water to make a (nasty-tasting) drink. This medicine is to increase bowel movements (i.e. poo-poo) and quality of sleep. So I am taking the powder, and also following a diet free of the above foods. It's only my forth day on the herbs, so not much results yet. I'll keep you all posted!

Re: Adult Acne

Thanks Baby for the updates. Has anyone tried the seabuckthorn soap? I just got some and so far i love it.It's supposed to clean out your pores. So far I just notice it makes my skin look great and reduces all the oil all day!
