How much does it cost to see a derm?

Hi,

I'm one of the millions of uninsured in the US. I'm wondering how much it costs to see a dermatologist? Also is it worth the cost?

TIA!

Re: How much does it cost to see a derm?

You can always call up an office (find out about good dr's in your area) and see how much they charge.

I was at my office about a year ago, and a young girl came out to pay and I overheard a conversation where the receptionist told her they no longer accepted her insurance and the visit would be $200. The girl was visibly upset (she expected the $15 copay!) but I wouldn't be suprised if a regular office visit cost that much.

It's up to you if it's worth the cost. Going one time and getting info and possibly prescription treatment would definitely be worth it to me, and I'd save up the money to go. Just my opinion.

Re: How much does it cost to see a derm?

I used to go to a derm that wasn't covered by my insurance because I didn't like the one in the area that was covered by it. The visits were usually around $65-$100....that was just the visit. I did have perscription coverage no matter where I went, so I didn't have to pay for the medicine...so I am sure that is an arm and a leg if you don't have that covered.

Needless to say, I decided I didn't like that doctor either, so I am now going to one about an hour away from my house that is covered by my insurance, and they are great...so now I only pay a $10 copay.

It can be a pretty big range.
Of the ones I went to it ranged from $65-$120.

Re: How much does it cost to see a derm?

I went to a cancer dermatologist here in New Orleans. She removed a few freckles by freezing them and gave me a prescription for EpiQuin plus 2 refills. The cost was $68.00. The EpiQuin sadly was $110.00 at the Walgreens Pharmacy. I am going back to see her this Wednesday for more to be removed.
