Angry Extremely overactive sebaceous glands

Hi All,

I hope somebody can help me with a complexion problem I've had for over 6 years.

I suffer from a horrible case of constant excess oil (sebum) on my face. And I believe the cause of this is because when I was in my teenage years, I used to torture my skin with very harsh cleansing products while scrubbing my face really hard with a cleansing pad, in attempt to deep clean my pores and prevent pimples. And unfortunately, that stupidity has completely thrown my skin's natural mosturizing system out of balance, and thus I now suffer from extremely overactive sebaceous glands.

I'm almost 24, and I've been suffering through this hell for around 6-7 years. I don't have bad acne at all, other than a couple blackheads here and there, but my skin is just so greasy looking and so uncomfortable. I can't seem to find anything that'll slow my sebaceous glands down and thus reduce all the excess oil that tortures me on a daily basis.

I wash my face twice a day with a mild cleanser, and after I wash it my skin feels really tight and dehydrated for a few hours...However, within no more than 5 minutes after cleansing, I already begin to see the oil making its way to my skin's surface in the T-zone. And by the end of the day my entire face is greasy and absolutely disgusting. So I start the day with tight dehydrated surface skin, and end the day with skin that looks like it has been soaked in olive oil.

A couple months ago I started using those oil wipes to blot the excess oil off my face, they're a lot of help, but i'm sick of having to go to the bathroom every hour to wipe my face off.

I just wish I could find something that would restore my skin's natural balance and thus stop my sebaceous glands from being overactive and producing so much excess oil.

Somebody please help me before I go bonkers.

Thanks! I appreciate any tips.

Re: Extremely overactive sebaceous glands

I really have no idea of how to help you here butI've read that jojoba oil is good at making your body think that it's sebum oil and what it actualyly does is get rid of excess oil. How? Go figure. Google it and see if you can come up with more from it.

Re: Extremely overactive sebaceous glands

I have the same problem as you. I use clean and clear oil control sheets. I get them in bulk on ebay because it's cheaper.

I would recommend just carrying them in your pocket all the time like I do. Throughout the day I have to blot my face at least every 2 hours (which uses up 2-3 entire sheets).

I currently have 1 next to my computer, 1 in the bathroom, 1 in my pocket, 1 in my backpack, and 1 in my car. So that makes it easier to use them.

Re: Extremely overactive sebaceous glands

I know how to help you.... I had the same problem before and I got rid of it in a about a month... And the solution for this is SO simple.. (well for me it worked and also for one of my friends...) All you have to do is avoid soap... you just have to wash your face with COLD water (twice a day) and thats it.... use ZERO soap!! By doing this you will restore your natural moisturizing system.... good luck

Re: Extremely overactive sebaceous glands

using jojoba oil will trick your skin into believing that it is already hydrated so it won't produce as much oil. the idea of using oil to fight oil seems counter-intuitive but it works!
