It was the Splenda

I have been reading this board for a few years now. I am a 31 year old female. I have had mild, moderate and severe acne over the last 12 years. It has seemed to come and go, not sure why. About one year ago, I started drinking coffee every morning with splenda. I also replaced all sugar with splenda in everything that I ate or drank to try to save calories. I developed very severe cystic acne. I was on several different and strong antibiotics, creams, etc. I eliminated several things from my diet (milk, dairy, bread, wheat, etc.) and nothing worked. When I stopped using splenda, within one week my acne was getting better. Now, after 3 weeks I am 99% acne free. I have read a post by SweetJade about splenda and I cannot believe that they have this stuff on the market for humans to consume. I am in disbelief of how my face looks now. I am just dealing with the scars that the acne left. I'm hoping to try a microdermabrasion soon. I just wanted to let everyone know how bad splenda affected my face.

Re: It was the Splenda

I don't often visit the acne board, but your subject heading attracted my attention. I have rosacea and some acne - and I have stopped consuming anything with Splenda in it, too. Last year I discovered diet soda that contained it, and I loved it. However, I began to also discover that my rosacea, acne, AND acid reflux issues all flared when I consumed it. I haven't had anything with splenda in it for at least two months, and wow, my face looks pretty good and along with cutting out fruit for acid reflux, my reflux is in pretty good shape.

I've been trying to encourage my mom that perhaps REAL sugar might be a tiniest bit healthier than Splenda (my mom like splenda on strawberries), and my grandmother, too, (who is Type II Diabetic) not to use Splenda. My mom says that unless my grandma's doctor says not to use Splenda specifically, she's not going to encourage to do otherwise.

Re: It was the Splenda

Wow...that might have been my problem a couple of weeks ago. I got on this Green Tea fix because I thought it was supposed to help with detoxifying the body.

I bought Arizona Diet Green Tea...which is actually sweetened with Splenda, and ended up breaking out really really bad with cysts along my jawline! I thought it was just my normal hormones fluctuating since I am on OTC birth control, but maybe the Splenda DID had something to do with it!

I ran out of the Diet Green Tea last week, and now I have no new pimples...maybe I will have to look into this Splenda stuff a little bit more before I consume it again! Thanks for the info!

Re: It was the Splenda

About a month ago i got on a kick to eat right and cut out sugar, so i started buying all the sugar free products with splenda, aspartamine and ect...
2 weeks into it my nose cheeks and part of my forehead became bright red and hurt. went to the doctors and they said it was rosecea and gave me metro cream which worked ok but face was still red. the other day at work i downed a diet green tea drink and right away my face got warm and lit up like a christmas tree, i was not feeling so good either. my co worker looked at me and said i was having a reaction to the aspatamine in the green tea. i stopped eating all sugar free stuff 2 days ago and my face is already looking much much better. i didn't even know this sugar free stuff could do all that. hope this helps for some. take care everyone.

Re: It was the Splenda

I also have been using splenda for my morning coffee, and it seems my acne is gotten worse. I try to use honey instead and see what happens. I get acne around the chin area. anybody has used saw palmetto and clear their chin acne?
