Sleep affect acne?

I used to have acne when I was small but my face cleared up with the odd pimple/zit here and there for the past 3 years but now its all coming back. Could it be lack of sleep? Is that a factor in acne or is it just a myth?
Could it also be stress? I just started university maybe my body is reacting this way to pressure.

Any thoughts would help, thanks.

YES! Lack of sleep and stress definitely aggravate acne. Not changing your pillowcase often enough is also a big one that people overlook. Not that that is what is happening to you but I know when I went away to university I never even thought about changing my pillowcase because my mom used to do that stuff for me

Re: Sleep affect acne?

I would say stress deffinetly. I get around 9-10 hrs of sleep a night and i still have acne, so sleep isnt a factor for myself, but im sure it different for everyone. But yes, stress has been proven to worsen acne.

Yeah i think stress definetly causes acne!! My acne tends to get really bad during very stressful periods like university exams or relationship issues etc.. I tend to get oilier in those moments!

Re: Sleep affect acne?

Oh yeah, definitely. During vacations I don't break out as much as i do during the school year when i sleep on average only 4-5 hrs and am under a lot of stress (Pre Med!!). When i don't sleep a lot I can almost guarantee that I'll have a bunch of new breakouts in 2 or 3 days because of one night of bad sleep.
