I am currently taking generic minocycline. I was just curius if this is worse than the brand name or the same thing, just cheaper. Also can you take the generic kind with food or are you not supposed to? Thanks.
I was told not to take minocycline (I'm using the generic brand) with food. Supposedly, the food slows down the medication from getting into the bloodstream faster. I take the medication about an hour before bedtime so I don't have to deal with the symptoms.
I too was taking the generic brand of Minocycline called Minocin. I was having a major problem with dizziness. Now I am taking Dynacin which is the name brand drug for Minocycline. I remembered my Dermotologist telling me not to take the generic but he didn't put it on the prescription. I also read on this message board a couple of weeks ago that Dynacin was much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am taking 75 mg 3 times per day. I'm doing ok, but it is only my second day. Another thing I meant to mention was that the Minocycline was only $5 with my insurance for a 30 day supply and Dynacin was $50 w/insurance for a 10 day supply. I was shocked when I went to the pharmacy to pick it up.
Let me know if you decide to try Dynacin and your results!
Wow, that is quite a difference in cost. My generic minocycline right now is a $10 co-pay for a 30 day supply. I'll see what my derm has to say about maybe switching me over to Dynacin. If it works better and is more effective, then it'll be worth it. Let me know how it's going for you!
I'm using Brevoyxl 4% BP Cleansing Lotion. It really irritated my skin at first but now I'm used to it. I just moisturize at night with jojoba oil.
For the first couple of weeks on minocycline, I had horrible dizzy spells, then they went away, and now they seem to be coming back. I don't know what's going on with it! But luckily, I have my appointment in 3 days so I'm interested in what the derm has to say about it.
