I posted about a month ago about this and said that I'd report back and let you all know how it was going.
I've had chronic cystic acne ever since I was 11 years old. I'm 40 now and have never had success with anything (Acutane, Birth Control Pills, Topical everything, etc.) Anyway, I stumbled across this stuff at Whole Foods called Kombucha Tea and decided to give it a try. It's a fermented tea that is supposedly loaded with probiotics. When I first started drinking it my face was breaking out and within a few days it had cleared. It's been a month and I haven't had a single cyst and have had only two tiny whiteheads that went away almost immediately.
There are tons of sites that talk about Kombucha, but I have to admit that they are all sort of new-agey and don't seem to be backed by scientific research. A lot of them talk about how to brew your own tea, but I wouldn't recommend it because unless you are really careful it is easy for home brews to become contaminated and there have been several cases of people getting very sick and even some fatalities from doing the homemade stuff.
However, if you are able to purchase the kind that is prepared professionally, you might want to give it a try. I've been drinking this every day and don't need to do anything special with my skin in terms of using BP or SA or anything like that. In fact, there have been a few evenings when I didn't wash my face at all and it still didn't break out. It even seems to be helping my rosecea . . . for the first time since I can remember my skin doesn't look all red and blotchy.
I also have to say that I've made some changes to my diet in an attempt to lose weight, so I've really cut a lot of the grease and processed foods that I was eating. I'm also drinking tons of water and exercising, which I'm sure is helping my skin. But I think that the Kombucha was helping even before I implemented these other changes.
I've searched the boards and there hasn't really been a lot of discussion about this, so I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone is interested.
I bought it at Whole Foods, but I imagine other health food stores would carry it, too. It's in the refrigerated section. It's important to buy it unpasturized because it needs to have live cultures in order to work. There are tea bags (yogi brand, I think) that say they are Kombucha, but it's not the same thing.
OK, I've decided to start making my own tea since 1)its cheaper and you can do it forever! 2)store bought kombucha teas is pasteurized to a certain extent according to FDA rules. 3)health benefits are greater than store bought kombucha

I found this really good sugar in Whole Foods.
Its called Florida Crystals demerara cane sugar.
Its a brown crystal sugar.
It tastes nothing like brown powdered sugar.
The demerara cane sugar has this rich mollasses taste.
This sugar is all natural with no chemicals.
Sweet and low and Splenda, put alot of chemicals in their sugars.
The demerara cane sugar taste amazing in tea and coffee.
I tried a few mother brands that make demerara cane sugar.
I tried the Billington's and the Sugar In The Raw.
The Florida Crystals was much better tasting.
