Question Ladies - Always use foundation?

I have been reading a lot about foundation recently on this board. I try to stay clear of it and just use a concealer on spots when I need to. I am so afraid that it will break me out. Do you use foundation everyday? Do you use it to make your skin look clear? Or do you use it to protect your skin? Just curious if I should give it a try or stick with my concealer only. Thx.

Hi Denver! Gosh, I'm jealous!! Lucky for you to not HAVE TO wear foundation. I wish I didn't. If you are blessed enough not to, then I would go for a natural look or try some of those mineral make ups to just enhance what you've already got. You go, girl...or should I say, "gal".

hi DenverGal,

i'd say try to go as natural as possible, and don't wear foundation if you can avoid it, regardless of whether its 'oil free.' i just steer clear of foundation. I don't need it and it makes my make up look HEAVY! i just use powder and two dabs of concealor and jojoba as my make up base and im matte..

i use a light cremelike powder. It doesn't so much hide anything, as it tones down old red marks. Also, sometimes I think it helps protect my skin from some of the pollutants out there.

I can get away with not wearing it if I'm just running errands and stuff, but for work I like to wear it for a more polished look. It evens out my skin tone and makes my skin look smoother.

Lancome's Teint Idole (I think that's how it's spelled) is good. Pricey, but matches my skin color well and doesn't make me break out at all, even if I go to the gym after work and exercise with it on. Helps control the oily shine, too.

But I guess if you've never worn it it's good not to start, healthier for your skin in the long run. I just don't have the courage to give it up!

I use Reflections by dermablend. This is NOT their heavy covering makeup, but rather a very light face makeup that supposedly adjusts to your natural coloring. I don't know but it works beautifully for me and I have ultra pale skin. It is the first makeup I have used that blends so smoothly that I can't even tell I have it on. I use a little soncealer over top any problem spots if I need more coverage, but usually just the makeup. Before applying it however, I moisturize with jojoba oil and this makes it go on much nicer.

I swear by Neutrogena SkinClearing oil-free foundation. It contains salicylic acid which I've found to be a personal miracle ingredient for breakout control. I agree that you should avoid foundation if you can get away with it. It's essentially a blanket across your skin that makes it harder for it to breathe, no matter how "healthy" the product may be. I only wear it when I have a really important business event or am being photographed (otherwise I shine like a bloody lightbulb!)

I agree with Kali! I went through a foundation-kick sometime last year where I wore it all the time, and then all of a sudden I just quit. My skin cleared up a bit, but after a few months the acne came back. I recently started using Neutrogena's skin clearing makeup products, and it's been amazing! I HIGHLY recommend it.

I use a Maybelline stick foundation. It's great, lasts well and doesn't give me pimples or oilness.

I use it most days but i like to give my skin a break sometimes too. I actually find that my skin always looks better if i've used my foundation all week.
