how does accutane work i k that it stops all the oil but how does it get rid of the pimplesd u have on ur face at the time would a dr prescribe a topical or does the accutane get rid of the ones on ur face at the time or what please someone explain

Sorry, I don't know much about Accutane, jdean. I was actually hoping to add something to this thread and ask someone who knows a lot about Accutane: how long does it work for? I know that it's a treatment for a few months, but how long does the effect last after you're done with the treatment?

I'm not sure how exactly it works but I tried it and within the first week your face (lips, nose, even eyes) really get dry and you notice a difference in your complexion. If you don't need Accutane, I certainly don't suggest it. My acne wasn't bad but most products haven't worked well for me so I think this was a last resort for my dr. Yes, my face looked great but it wasn't work the hassle of painful chapped lips, blurred vision at night and constant dry eyes. I swited derms after that and now am much better off with plain old retin a micro.

I'm on my 4th month of Accutane. It does get rid of the acne on your face, you don't need a topical as well. If you have a good derm. that prescribes it, things can go well. My derm gave me a script for moisturizer that helps. I use cortibalm for my lips. You have to get your blood tested every month before you can get your next script. they test your liver function, your cholesterol and for women pregnancy. I haven't had my vision affected. I am very pleased with it. You need to be monitored closely because it is a very powerful med. Also, you can't take vits. while on it because they can increase the side effects.

Accutane is a derivative of Vitamin A. It affects the sebaceous (oil) glands and shrinks them (somehow

). This oil is what traps the stuff in the pores and provides a place for bacteria to grow...so decrease oil=decrease acne. You aren't supposed to use topicals while on Accutane. You just have to wait for the pimples you have to heal. In fact, breakouts get worse for a while.

It's supposedly permanent but I know that my acne came back after a few months, albeit less severe than before. "They" say you can take up to three courses to get a full result...if it doesn't work by then, it won't be a "cure" for you. HTH.
