BAD face peel - help!

I really meesed up. I've been on Tazorac for about 3 weeks now, and my skin was pretty clear... minus the red marks. Smart me put a lactic acid face peel on the spots where the red marks were on Friday night - and the three places I put it on turned to scabs very quickly. I know now that my skin was too sensitive to put such a peel on... wish I knew that 3 days ago. The scabs came off, but the skin underneath is nothing pretty. Online it says that after a peel, skin is pink, new and tighter... mine is pink/red/splotchy... and you can see the exact outline of where I put the peel. So basically, it looks horrible. I called my derm today and she said skin bleaching might be necessary - and it takes about 2 months for the skin to return to a normal color. It made me mad that she made such an extreme decision without seeing my skin first. Has anyone had this happen? How long did it take for your skin to return to a "normal" color? I am pretty upset about this.
Lesson learned: DO NOT USE anything not given to you by your doctor, especially if your skin is already sensitive from a topical prescription!!!
