Question To pop or not to pop

Hey everyone! My facial acne isn't bad at all. I usually get like one pimple on my face every month. The other day I got one that started off really small on my forehead. So, as usual, I applied some Benzamycin to it that night (that's the prescription Gel my doctor told me to use). Well I woke up the next morning and it was even worse - didn't expect THAT!!>

I woke up this morning, after doing the same thing last night, and it's neither worse nor better. It's just a pretty large red mark on my forehead. There's no whitehead, it's just big and red. I know there's puss in it, but should I pop it or just keep putting on the Benzamycin?

I'm going to my doctor today for a physical (for college), so I'll ask him.

Maybe I should try putting toothpaste on it tonight...? Or maybe I should try whipping up egg whites and putting a little of that on the pimple...?

If your acne is that minor, I would definately suggest not popping them. That can only spread the infection making the situation worse.

In my extensive experience with zits, the massive, red, painful suckers are the only ones worth popping, if they're ripe for the picking (and it sounds like yours is). If you hold a hot rag to it for a few minutes, the pus will accrete more closely to the surface. After that, you should scratch the head off of it. Then SQEEEEEZE, but be careful not to break the surrounding skin with your fingernails. Repeat the hot rag treatment--though with increased pressure, to reduce swelling--to insure you've ejected all the white stuff, then apply antibiotic and aloe vera gel.
Yay! Edification. I have so much to offer the world...or to splatter upon it. Pop goes my head.
