Post retin-a

hi, this is my first week on retin-a and i've been breaking out so badly >.< (stupid initial breakouts)
i just had a few questions i need u guys to respond to
1. how long did your initial breakout last?
2. did this clear up your acne?
3. has it helped your scars in any way?
4. how long have you been using retin-a and does it stop working?

thanks

I was a user of Retin A in a few different strengths (cream) on and off over the years. I do remember that the initial break out lasted about 4 to 6 months for me with lots of redness and peeling. I since (within the last 2 years) have been changed to Differen gel which worked better for me, but I have to say that using Retin A really helped as far as keeping away wrinkles. I have a younger look than most of my girlfriends that are my age (in our 30's) and I attribute my younger looking face to using Retin A. Sounds silly I'm sure, but I really do think it's helped in that respect, but it kind of stopped working on my acne after a few years.

I first tried Retin-A a few years ago. I don't remember how long the initial outbreak was, but it cleared my skin--and nothing else would(it was bad. My Derm had me on differin, and mino, and benzaclin, and it made me worse. I flat out asked him for retin-a, bc A friend reccommended it for acne scarring. It helps with the scarring, but unless you have very superficial scarring, it won't get rid of them-nothing will.It does help the overall tone and texture of your skin, but this takes six months. The other girl is right about the wrinkling.

I went off the Retin in the summertime, and just went back on three weeks ago. I haven't had an initial breakout--I think bc my skin isn't really bad to begin with. I'm really on it bc I miss how I looked while I was on it b4.

You absolutely MUST use sunscreen while you are on this product, as it takes away layers of your skin. You will age prematurely, and possibly get skin cancer if you don't. You'll have to wear an SPF daily, and can not sunbathe. If you can't commit to that, forget retin-A, bc you'll ruin your skin.

BTW, it gets rid of red marks left over from acne faster than anything else.

i love retin a. im on week 4 and past my init. breakout. it wasn't too bad at all. my skin is getting smoother and my spots are fading. i only have 2-3 small zits. basically, everybody is DIFFERENT! it depends on your acne severity and type. retin a is working for me.

Wink

I use Retina-micro and I really like it. I have been useing it for about 6 weeks, it was slow going and it was very hard at times but I think its working well now. I also use Azelex in the morning.

Does Retin A make your skin greasy or oily or does it just dry it out ? Could someone please post what Retin A actually does to your skin?

mom said it dries out your pimples real fast, but don't believe her she knows nothing :-P.
retin-a sorta acts like a mega exfoliant, which is why there is a huge initial break out. it brings out the skin under you i think... :/ not too sure about that but thats what i read
