I think I have found a great regimen. I am using Glycolic acid in a cleanser, benzoyl peroxide gel, and Nutraderm lotion. Combination treatment is the best way to help prevent acne. I first noticed this with Proactive, but Proctive has a flaw in it's regimen. It's cleanser can be very irritating to sensitive skin types, because of the micro-beads. Everytime I used it my skin would look good (but oily or overhydrated) for three days and then big red pimples would pop up from the irritation. The most important ingredients in Proactive are Benzoyl Peroxide and Glycolic acid. The combination of these two can be very effective. Glycolic acid helps to shed dead skin cells very effectively, while BP kills the acne causing bacteria and dry up oily skin.
I tried using the Proactive toner & gel with a Cetaphil cleanser. It worked OK, but made my skin looked overhydrated or oily, because of the toner. I decided to use the Dan Kern's regimen, which is a gentle cleanser, BP gel, and moisturizer. Trust me this regimen works really well if you find the right moisturizer. In the process of ordering the 2.5% BP gel from Dan Kern's website and the Nutraderm lotion, I found a cleanser with 2% glycolic acid (or more). The cleanser is Reviva labs glycolic facial cleanser. It's non-irritating, oil free, non-comedogenic and very effective at shedding the dead skin, and smoothing out your complexion. It has calming botanicals and no fragrence as well. Use this cleanser and follow the directions, then use dan kern's 2.5% BP gel or another 2.5% BP gel, and follow with the Nutraderm therapeudic lotion (original formula).
