Hi I have severe acne scarring on my back/chest/upper and now lower arms. I am doing a chemical peel which is risky business for my dark skin. However they are pretty good so I am taking the chance again. Its my fourth time. Its a pretty harsh and tedious regiment.

This is week two and yeah! My lower back is starting to "shed" skin. Whoopee!

For the first 3 weeks or so I use Neutrogena soap and vegetable cutan' oil (Nelly DeVuyst)to slowly dry the skin. One it starts to peel lightly I increase the process by applying a peeling cream (stage one). Then there are two more creams I use after that. Because its summer and its so hot the first phase is taking longer than usual.

You can also do microdermabrasion if your scars are very surface level.

Alpha Hydroxy acids help to speed up the natural shedding of dead skin.

Ask your derma. which is the best method for you. It depends on the type of scarring you have and your skin type. Lazer treatment is also an option , particularly for pitted or ice-pick scars.

Patience is the key to any process you choose.

i just got my second...face looks all badly sunburned right now but at least it doesn't hurt anymore

hey brownsugar! sorry i shoulda been a little more clear haha...i got my second chem peel from my derm..i think its what they call a tca peel (i think the bottle said 10%). I got it on the 12th and right now my face looks like i got sunburned, then beat up, and then had mud rubbed on my face lol. Hopefully after i peel there'll be improvement

...I was wondering tho, do you think it would be ok to not use my topicals for a couple of days? skin is already so dry and all...thanks and be sure to let me know how your doing

I would not use my usual topicals if I were you until the peeling process was completed because they might interfer with/aggravate the skin's healing. A good peel is not only uncovering new/undamaged skin but should also prevent new cysts from forming so you should not need you regular topicals for now.

Sounds like the mud mask is a cooling agent. Sounds wonderful.

I am sooooo excited that my peeling has started. I need another bottle of cutan' oil today though 'cause my 50ml bottle is gone and its not even been 2 weeks. That puts me out $50 that I don't have today. Anyway......where there is a will there is a way!
