i personally feel that large pores are worse than the acne itself. i started using retin-a .1% 10 yrs. ago and it kept the acne in check, but my face was always extremely red so i switched to the .05%. since then, i get my face isn't as red, but i still get zits and the worst part is that my pores have gotten much bigger and my face just isn't smooth at all. it's all uneven and porous and basically looks like crap. plus it peels constantly. i'm very depressed about the whole thing. i started taking GNC b5 today. i'm gonna take 3 grams a day hoping it will reduce the size of my pores. i can live with zits, redness, peeling, and oiliness, but i can't take this uneven porous piece of crap face that i have.
Talk to a dermatologist, there are things you can take to make the pores less noticeable. Most of my large pores have faded with time though. Maybe that will be the case with you too.<p>[This message has been edited by M_L (edited 04-24-2001).]
There are several ways to reduce size of pores. Sometimes it helps to be on askincare regimen that has glycolic acids in it (AHA's). Also, it is important to use a toner. Using masks and getting a facial at a spa can help a lot with all kinds of skin problems including the acne itself.
Sometimes people that develop severe, cystic acne can have very large pores. Some studies suggest that the size of the pores actually has something to do with the development of cystic acne. So, if you have large pores coupled with chronic acne, I would see a dermatologist. He/she may want to prescribe Accutane for your skin disorder.
Dude--- how funny you posted this Q about large pores.. I was just going to do that myself. I have thee LARGEST skin pores.. but just in my cheek (outer nose) and now forehead area.... It sucks! I so know.. I look at people who have acne..but small pores... and they still can look great... but little acne and large pores... Ugh! I always feel like swiss cheese face!! Well... I'll be honest... I've been on 5gm of B-5 since the end of Jan. and my pores have NOT reduced in size one bit. It's decreased the oilness and reduced the cysts... but smaller pores? Nah... Its driving up the wall... And my silly aestician won't give me the glycolic treatments until I'm totally clear (duh..like when will that ever be!?!) so tomorrow I'm gonna start my hunt for another aestician who will start the glycoloic peels for me... I hear they work sooooo well... and make all those nasty pores shrink a bit and git rid of those excess 'wrinkles' and brwon spots. Products def. don't work on the pores...I've tried those pore reducing toners and stuff...nanh...they just clog them but the peels I hear work great... I'm thinking of upping my B-5 a bit... but its soo expensive an makes me gassy..and honestly? Your body pees out unused vitamins anyway..so I don't even know if 1 or 5 grms. makes a difference. The frustrating thing is that a lot of people say the large pores are genetic (yes..my father has them).. but with peels.. I don't see why that needs to stay within the genes./..especially if you keep stripping off layers of skin and rebuilding fresh new skin.
Hey... anyone reccomend a great place to get glyocolic peels in L.A. (CA) and anyone see pore reduction and brown spot reduction by having them??
thanks for the info ashland. what you said was a little depressing, about the b5 not working for the pores, but every little bit of info helps. i don't know what i'm doing wrong. my pores are getting bigger every day. the thing is, i've been on a diet for 2 weeks, and that's when i everything started to go to hell. i don't think it's what i'm eating, but maybe it's the water. i drink lots, and i mean lots of water. maybe i'm drinking too much? this is killing me.
Shrinking pores with anything, peels or no peels, will unlikely happen. I had large pores on my nose, both derms i visited said things like peels can make it less noticeable MAYBE, but not smaller. hblarns, try a routine for a few months before you try another, it usually takes 2-3 months sometimes to see results. Oh, and you can never drink too much water :P
water cleans your insides so it can remove toxins and bacteria better.
on the sides of my nose my pores are very big--and it's spread a little, to my horror, but to a much lesser degree, onto my cheeks. and though, i agree, it's definitely genetic-- i have to admit--the only thing that has helped me--and it has for sure--is retin-a cream-- not micro.
i know it's not for everyone. but, just thought i'd share with you my experience.
Karen- That's awesome Rentin-A is working for you. I used it as a teenager and after a year it made me gorgeous.. but I'm in my earl 20's now and my skin is ultra sensitive for some reason... I wear a mild dose of Rentin-A and I fry overmight!
ML- peels MAYBE lessen the size of pores?? They do the same thing Rentin-A does... literally peels off those top layers... the pores have cna't be that HUGE under those layers of skin.... Ever notice if you get a sunburn... Skin always looks kind great after the peeling is done.. pores a little smaller and a little color for a bonus... but same thing... You just have to keep them up..Not go to get like 2 peels and quit.
My aestician is still saying she won't give me the peels until my skin is 'totally clear'. Is she crazy? My derm. said it would help the acne as well as even out my bumpy skin......
Also... anyone try those glycolic peel creams you can get over the counter?
