Re: Minocycline+alcohol? (one more time !)

I'm on minocycline as well and have an occasional drink. The only thing to watch out for is that all antibiotics mess with your liver a bit, as does alochol. Since there is no warning about it with the prescription, I think social drinking on occasion is fine. Just don't do it all the time or you could wind up with liver issues. In short: go ahead, but don't make a habit of it (especially while you're on antibiotics).

Hi Maynard,

I did that once...and only once! I had the worst hangover I ever had (and I NEVER get hangovers). As a general rule, you should
never drink alcohol while using a drug which taxes the liver.

Hey Maynard..I did this twice while i'm on doxycycline,an antibiotic quite similar to minocycline.Anyways, nothing happened..No hangovers,no unwanted side effects..I think you can drink alcohol while taking minocycline. The only thing is,i've read that alcohol can reduce the effects of antibiotics..I don't know if this happens with minocycline..Also,as the other posters said,it can be hard on your liver so be careful..

Re: Minocycline+alcohol? (one more time !)

While I agree that an occasional drink will probably not hurt, I should quote the following warning from rxmed.com:

"Minocycline should be used with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction and in conjunction with alcohol or other hepatotoxic drugs."

So, it is most definitely not ``completely ok.''
