How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

I was wondering because I've finally decided to stop smashing my bumps everytime a new one grows.I don't know how long I can take not just popping a bump and I can feel the pain on those big ones. How long does it disapear?

I have no idea because I always give it to popping them! It seems like some of mine never would without some help, but I could be wrong!

LOL...I have no idea either. It's like "how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop." No one will ever know. I MUST smash the bumps. It's an obsession. Knowing how awful they look after I go crazy on them is a little incentive to stop though.

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

I left one alone once and it took a week to disappear and another week after that for the red mark to disappear. Another pimple I had, I popped it, and the redness disappeared within a week. So, if you pop them, they disappear quicker. but you have to be careful when you pop them so they dont leave scars. put neosporin on them and it will help it heal up and won't leave scars.

i pop all of mine that are ready to pop (i.e., pus near the surface) and i've never had a scar, ever. i've had acne for 5 years. just be sure it's ready to go. i agree with jim that getting the stuff out of there generally helps it heal faster.

I find for those really huge ones, icing works wonders if you dont want to pick at it. But you have to get it at the early stages. If you do, it works the best.

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

I agree with you Goldengirl, some of my zits I think I have to give a push in order for them to even think about going anywhere, I do have scars on my face though from popping them, but only the ones that I continue to fuss with and compulsively mess with. The ones that are at a head and come right out (isn't that the best feeling!!??) usually don't leave a scar. I pop them and then do my nightly routine with my topical acne meds and by the morning it looks soooo much better.

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

Definitely better to pop, despite what practically every doctor (who hasn't had acne) will tell you. However, must wait until ready, as many before me have said. The trick to stop scaring is to ***** right at the centre of the pustule, where there is no actual normal tissue, just a covering of Mt Vesuvius before its ready to blow. If you ***** here, then you've done no tissue damage at all. So what you need is a very good light, preferably sitting by a window with the sun coming in, and a very good needle and a steady hand. If you pop too soon, the pustule won't have opened up the pore to the extent you need go in without damaging normal tissue. Re: the obsessional comment. You've hit the nail on the head. If you're popping too soon then you're obsessional. And no-one, like no-one will blame you. But that's what you're doing. So slow down, take a deep breath, read a few comments by fellow participants in the group, take heart, and wait or go for a good run to flush the area with oxygen and blood. It won't get rid of it but it may bring it on quicker so you won't get so antsy. Good Luck.
Benton

Benton you're a master popper! LOL. I agree..you gotta get that crap out of there. I notice that if I have a zit that hurts, it's usually because of the pus/infection. If I get the pus or occasionally that nasty hard nodule out of there, it feels much better and heals up faster. Of course don't try before it's ready.

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

I think, (after some painful experience ) you SHOULD pop the fella out of your miserable face!!! I've tried to leave some or the small pimple alone and let the BP do its work, but they are already infected and wouldn't go anywhere.... so I ended up with an overgrown pimple, which I would like to call 'CYST'!!!

OK then I guess that anytime you have a red mark thats taking forever to fade, that its a result of a scab being picked off or popping a zit. They should stress the fact more often not to touch your face.

Angela: not always I had a big one that popped on saturday and today is Tuesday and the red mark is completely gone. That's because i put neosporin on it right away, it healed up within a few days!

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

Don't pick! I spent years picking at my face, thinking that it'd help them go away. I have completely willed myself to stop picking [even at those HUGE HUGE HUGE ones] and now they clear up in about 3-5 days. They don't turn red or anything, and when they're gone, they're GONE. No marks left. And now since I rarely ever touch my face, I've stopped having breakouts over and over and over again in the same spots. So really. Don't pick. It's a hard thing to stop, but worth it.

Re: How long does it take for a pimple to go away untouched?

When i don't touch a pimple,it takes about two-three weeks to disappear but it also leaves a red mark which takes forever to heal. Also, some of them remain as a small raised red bump, which usually becomes infected for the second time and turn into a hugh painful one later so i usually pop them carefully with two cotton balls and apply Neosporin immediately afterwards. That really works for the type of pimples i have.
