hot presses or ice to reduce swelling on a cyst?

so i have these 2 huge cysts on my chin, someone yesterday recommended hot not cold presses to increase blood flow to that area and speed healing. another person recommended ice cubes to reduce the swelling, since these are contradicting one another, can someone offer some advice that might clear this up? (no pun intended)

The ice cubes will reduce swelling temporarily but will not do a thing for the infection. The hot compresses are actually therapeutic -- they help reduce infection and speed the healing process. Any doctor will recommend hot compresses to treat infected cysts.

Re: hot presses or ice to reduce swelling on a cyst?

an ice cube at an early stage of a cyst will help reduce redness and inflammation. It usually doesn't make it "go away" and is just a temporary thing.

Hot compress tend to make the cyst come to a head sooner, so you can carefully squeeze all the gunk out and it will heal up quicker.

this is just my personal experience, it might be different for you... So, let us know how it turns out

Hi, I'm quite interest on this 'hot compress'. Can anyone tell me exactly what that is? does it involve usage of any solution or lotion ( like the boric acid?) Thanks ahead.

And then cover the whole face with it? Are you talking about boiling hot water, by the way?

Thanks.

Re: hot presses or ice to reduce swelling on a cyst?

not boiling hot water, but hot. and only on the cyst(s). boric acid is available in the 1st aid section of any pharmacy, it heals things fast and removes infection. i imagine that the cyst would react to the boric acid better if it were already lanced. however, don't lance (using a sterilized needle or pin) a cyst unless it has come to a head, or you are sure pus will come out. don't 'pop' a zit by the way, this will create a scar. Lancing will only make a tiny hole for you to gently squeeze the pus out of it. The boric acid and/or antibiotic ointment (neosporin) will insure a speedy scarless recovery.
