Guys, the theory that lactose causes acne is silly. Lactose is a sugar. Unless you are lactose intolerance, you have an enzyme in your gut that breaks down lactose into simpler sugars which are then absorbed. If you ARE lactose intolerant, you can't digest the lactose, and your body *can not* absorb the lactose.
Lactose itself can not cause acne. It is either broken down in normal people, or not absorbed, in L.I. people.
Taking lactose intolerance pills (the enzyme that breaks down lactose) will not affect your acne.
Some people think that sugar exaccerbates their acne. In that case, anything with sugar will be a problem, not just milk.
i don't think anyone was implying that Lactose itself was causing the acne. There are other ingredients in dairy products besides Lactose that create reactions in some people. Dairy has been linked to many who suffer from acne. By cutting out dairy products they were able to clear their skin. It wasn't just the Lactose behind it.
And you don't have to be lactose intolerant to have problems with dairy. I am able to eat cheese and yogurts with no problems and even skim milk..ice cream and anything higher in % then skim creates problems for me....I know it isn't the Lactose.
Everyones bodies breakdown different foods differently it can be more than just the Lactose that is creating problems in someone's body.
If it was SILLY then there wouldn't be so many published studies on problems with dairy and exzema, psiriosis, etc.
I absolutely never denied that dairy could cause problems with acne. I was *only* referring to LACTOSE. It was in reference to another post in which there was a discussion about LACTOSE causing acne. That's why I wrote LACTOSE and not DAIRY. I wish you had read my post more clearly before being rude.
not being rude. Just feel that you can't really say lactose is silly in regards to acne. many peoples bodies will break down sugars differently. They may be able to break down fructose, glucose, etc, but not be able break down lactose properly. They might not be truley lactose intolerant though...and lactose in some bodies does create a rise in insulin, hormone production and increase in release of hormones that increase oil production. etc. etc.
My point is to say that you don't have to be lactose intolerant to have a reaction to it.
I just felt you should have read up more on what you were discussing and to say that the theory of lactose being behind somes acne is silly is untrue and sounds kinda rude in itself.
Maybe it was the way you worded your post that caught me, but, again I wasn't trying to be rude back I just was saying to read up on what you are saying before you say it.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion about whatever and there are studies about lactose...and acne. And in your favor yes studies can be made for anything and the statistics can be shown however the researchers want it too. It can be skewed in a direction that may not be normal, but then someone grabs ahold of that study and uses it to base a product etc. on.
I just felt that your post was worded badly.. I guess.
so don't take it personal, I just was throwing in my 2 cents so others wouldn't feel that their idea of dairy or lactose is "silly" like they are dumb or something.
that is how I took your post...Hey you guys are dumb if you think...etc. see what I am saying??
anyway not mad at you or anything just debating. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
and email and posts can sometimes be a hard thing at times to word properly so not taking offense.
