Hello,

My partner, who is nearly 43, has been suffering from cystic acne for over 10 years.
At present he has 3 large cysts on his face and head. In the past they have been on his arms.
He has seen skin specialists who have told him the only treatment is to cut the cysts out, which is what he has been getting done over the years.
Doctors have tried burning them off only for them to return weeks later.
They are large, do not look like "pimples" and they seem to have a core. They go crusty over time and do not go away.
My partner has Bipolar and this is making him quite depressed. To top it off we are getting married in 3 weeksa and he is devastated that he has these cysts on his face. Me, I could care less, I am marrying him "warts and all".

Does anyone else suffer from this or know anything that might help him?

Cutting them out? Are you serious? What quack of a doctor is he seeing?

He should be getting cortisone shots.

It's very common to remove cysts in a surgical setting, I've had many removed myself. In fact, I have one on my neck I need to schedule an ent appt to have removed. The process is to cut the skin around the cyst, and to cut the entire cyst out sack and all. In some cases this is a temporary measure and a cyst may grow back - could be days or years before that happens if at all.

I have no advice, but I can sympathize. It's awesome that you are caring and supportive, that's more important then anything. Good luck and congrats uth the wedding!

Hi, I've had I think was called a sebaceous cyst cut off my back a few years ago. I don't really have any acne this thing just appeared right about where my bra line is. I noticed lying on my back one night that it was hurting back there and looked in the mirror and here was this 1 inch wide bump near my spine (I have spine problems too). Yes I am married and you'd think someone would have told me lol!

Anyway I went to a surgeon and he cut it out, the gland and all so it would NOT come back he said. But, it left a dent in my back (better than the bump I guess). So you said he is going to skin specialists? Dermatologist types? I'd be sure of that I believe. I would worry about scarring if not. Are they telling him about what its going to look like afterwards because my dr. told me it would be flat but its not. But I went to a regular surgeon. hmmf.

My son has had cortisone injected into a recurrent bump that had gotten hard. (he had had acne) Once that was done it went away, it was about 1/8 inch in size I guess.

I was wondering if there is some sort of laser treatment he can get a couple weeks out from the wedding to calm things down or something. That would be a dermatologist there.

I'm just guessing that literally cutting the acne blemishes out of the skin will result in severe scarring - possibly giving a "pitted skin" type of appearance. Perhaps your friend can get a second (and/or third) opinion from a derm at another practice.
