Randy,
Hello and welcome to the boards!! I too had Idet done (July 12). I guess that puts me 8-9 weeks out too. It was really tough when I first got on here ,finding ANYone who had it done seemed impossible!! I guess there were some closet idetters out there!LOL
Tell me about how your rehab has been and how many levels did they do?
If you've been 'lurking' at all, you've probably read some....things had been going VERY well for me and I was even able to return to work on a limited basis, and THEN......things went horribly wrong last week (wouldn't it figure it was on 9-11) I've been in awful pain and unable to do practically anything. I have continued my PT MWF but other than that, I am really just laying around trying to take it easy.
I don't want to hear you've had trouble too....BUT, I must admit it would put my mind at ease if you've had any of the same problems, or setbacks, that I've experienced.
Anyhow...I look forward to our correspondence. Hope today is a good one for you.

Hi OMAB
What is this I hear you are not feeling good? I am soooo sorry to hear that. Are you doing any better? Have you had to miss work?
Gosh.. that is just awful you had a setback. Does the doc know what could be up?
Wish I was post IDET, then I could compare and tell you more
I am not sure if you read some of my posts on Cudanut's, and Husker's posts, but I go up against the Grievance Committee for the appeal of Insurance this Thursday. Do you have any advice on what I should say?
That is strange you and Cudanut went down at the same time. Do you think maybe you are doing too much? I know the money is tough.. but maybe the work was too quick for returning.
Not sure what could be the case. Will you let me know what you find out? I haven't seen your happy bouncing logos... so you must not be feeling good.
Is the doctor at least being generous with pain meds??? I would hope so!!!
Well Cutie, plllllllease take it easy, and take care, and let us know what's up!
Godspeed you back to feeling good

Hi Oh,
Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear about your setback, though I had the same thing last week. On Sept.10 I was in so much pain I had to just lay around.
The funny thing is that on the 6th I was pain free! Then I started a new level of PT, and that seemed to do it. I had terrible pain down my left leg. MY doctor
had to give me a cortisone shot in my priformis muscle in my butt because it was all knotted up and putting pressure on the sciatic nerve. I'm still having problems, now with back spasms and tingling in my left leg. The nerve is still irritated. I cannot sit for long. I really have very little back pain though. Let me know what type of pain you are having and hope you feel better.

Glad to hear from you, hope today is being good to you!
Although I’m sad to hear you too had problems since last week, I must admit I am a little relieved. Maybe I just did too much….I did increase some core activity weights last week, and I was a little more active than I should have been. As soon as I felt the ‘butt’ thing comin’ on, I chilled majorly!!!! I always know that’s the warning.
The pain is pretty intense 8-9ish and centers aroung L4 down into buttocks and radiating down both legs. I’m only able to sit up for about 45” at a time right now , so I’m up and down always changing positions. My doc did give me better pain meds to help manage the pain and said basically there’s not a whole lot to do except wait and hope (and rest, of course!). He gave me a run of prednisone and I think it’s really helped a lot, I’ve only taken 1 of the new pain meds, because I wanted to be able to tell what med helped what pain. Vioxx for after the pred. and stronger vicodin. We’ll see how that goes.
I’m still doing PT, but obviously slowed WAY down with how much and how heavy. Basically I’m back to square one with rehab….although my PT says I have increased my lumbar strength well (I still have a LONG way to go from my standpoint!), so that should help me through this tough spot.
My piriformis is also a ‘pain in the butt’!!! Pun intended! (Cj, I bet you can tell I’m feeling better!) It usually has to be massaged out when I go to PT and I try to stretch it with a yoga strap lying flat on my back, there doesn’t seem to be any other way without a second person or without bending your back….so, I just do that and then wait for PT.
I’m really happy you’ve joined the board, there’s a GREAT bunch here and it’s nice to have someone in exactly the same shoes as me!!
Hope today finds you joy and not too much pain.

Cj!!
Good to hear from you…my bouncers are back! I am feeling better in degrees. Obviously you’ve followed my threads throughout the board, I had a VERY bad week. The obligatory: “why did I do this, what did I do to deserve this, I’m not worth anything, I’m so far in debt….” week, I guess. BUT, it’s over!
Things went awful wrong last week and I’ve been terrified that I’ll have to start all over again. I went to the doc yesterday and they didn’t really have much news for me. It may just be inflammation, or I MAY have retore it. So, spiritually, not really any news, but they did hook me up with some other meds (read above). I’ve been drugging myself HEAVily to get some sleep and it seems to help me feel better.
Work…..NO!! I really slammed the brakes on when all of this started up last Wednesday. I am going to try to get a FEW hours in today to help pay for some of this nightmare. But, I will be VERY careful, you can bank on it! It’s either fewer days and more hours, or fewer hours and more days and I guess I think the latter is the least harmful.
So….Thursday, huh?!?!?!? GOOD for you! My thoughts and prayers will be with you…along with a LOT of other people! The only thing I would make sure of is that you have a lot of supporting documentation. They want to hear how it benefits THEM (b*st*ards), so give it to ‘em. Cost of fusion vs IDET, including the huge diff in cost of pain meds (you’ll be able to cut down substantially post procedure), hospital vs outpatient (or only 1 night), dr’s opinions….etc. I just shake my head that they can be so dense.@#!@$#@!@ New procedure or not, it’s soooooo much cheaper !!!!!
Anywho, I’ll be rootin’ for ya!
Talk to you soon, Oh~

HI Oh,
Thanks for the reply. I"m still about the same, but called my doctor today to let him know what is going on. Besides my back spasms my pain is mostly in my butt.It is putting pressure on that sciatic and I get that tingling in my leg and foot. I had to go on prednisone after the 2nd week the pain was so bad.Interesting to hear that you get the pain in the butt also. I'm going tomorrow to have them massage it out if possible, if I did not have this pain I would have no pain.My PT, I went back to basicstuff also. I was not lifting any weights though, just 8 exercises I'm back to 4. I cannot sit for more than 15 minutes with out my butt and leg bothering me.There has to be a better way to liv life. My doctor cannot seem to figure out what is going on with my back. Personally I think I strained the priformis muscle and the SI joint because that is what causes me the pain.
Glad your doing better

Hi OH,
Was wondering how you are I improved a little bit, but strained amuscle in my upper back I have no idea how.
Have to see the doctor Wednesday my priformis muscle is still causing me alot of problems. Still keeps me from sitting long.
Hope you are doing better.
Randy,
Hey how ya doin'? Glad to hear you've had a little improvement anyway. I'm hangin' in there. Prednisone has been the best thing that ever happened since the procedure! So, you said the 2nd week???? meaning 2nd week AFTER IDET? Were you more active than I was immediately afterward? I was restricted to 10 minute increments of sitting, standing, or walking at a time, so I'd be up for 10min and then flat on my back for 3 hours, then up for 10, then flat for 3 hours...la la la la . So..I was VERY immobile. Maybe that's why it took my flare up 6 wks later than you.
I felt like h*ll last weekend and just wanted to DIE, but am worlds better now!
I sure hope you and your doc get the upper figured out and that 'pesky piriformis'!! I know it's hard to focus on the good when those odd aches and pains persist. But....just think, 9 weeks ago......
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, as always and hope for some improvement on the horizon.

HI OH,
Glad to hear you are doing better, hope things are good in Arizona. MY doctor never gave me those sstrict restrictions. I tried to go back to work in 4 days and went home immed. I then did nothing for 2 weeks but lay down and walk a little. Then the 3rd week I tried to go back to work a couple hours at a time, then I qould go home and lay down. I started therapy at 6 weeks out. I took prednisone at the 2 week period. I remember it was a Thursday and I had such pain. It worked good and I did nothing but rest for 3 to 4 days.
I just never have been able to sit very long even when I felt good. Now I have to go to the spine surgeon on Wednesday. I asked my doctor about steriod injection and basically said see the spine guy first. I do not know if I re-injured the disk or what. I really have not done anything at all I do not even pick anything over 5 pounds up. Well hav a good day
Hey there,
Glad you're going to the spine doc next week, maybe they'll have some help for you. Are you planning to take it easy this weekend? I hope you relax away the time and your back is good to you.
I guess I should feel lucky that I was restricted so severely, it held things off for a while longer anyway. I don't know HOW you went back to work after 4 days!!!!!!!!!! I could barely move it hurt so much.
It's now that I'm trying to be more active and work that I seem to be inflaming things. My prednisone runs out tomorrow, so we'll see what the weekend holds for me. I'll be incommunicado for a few days, so I hope you are fine and have some sunny moments in your days this weekend.
You're in my thoughts!
