Question Wellbutrin for ADHD

Hi,

Has anyone tried Wellbutrin to control ADHD. Specifically impulsiveness, talking out in class, forgetting homework, etc. My daughter (12) has been on and off stimulants and has also tried strattera. the stimulants brought our latent tics and the strattera made her very irritable (more so than usual!). We are seeing her doctor today and I am going to speak to him about Wellbutrin. I have heard there is some success with Wellbutrin in controlling ADHD. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

Hi,

I have the same question. I have ADD/ADHD and it seems that the "inattentive" type is the most persistent. With this type of ADD one tends to be bored quickly, apathetic, sluggish, daydreaming, forgetful, have trouble with memory, etc. My psychiatrist just prescribed the new Wellbutrin XL for the ADD and also mild depression which I have on and off. He said that it wasn't as stimulating as the Stimulants like Ritalin or Concerta (which would be good because I also have anxiety issues). I've read on some depression forums that WB works well for ADD/ADHD, but I'm just curious what others experiences are?

A common med combo for inattentive ADDers is Wellbutrin and a small dose of a stimulant.

I was on Well Butrin for ADHD for 2years. Up till a few months ago it was working right, but now it's not. Well butrin is usually perscribed for adults that have adhd. Recently I have been slowly taking myself off of it under the care of a psychatrist, and soon to start taking ADDERALL. One thing that you have to realize with starting well butrin is that it's not going to start working right away. You'll notice changes in a few weeks. I hope this is any use.

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

How do you feel it helped your ADHD symptoms? Did it help with impulsiveness and concentration?

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

I have had a lot of luck with the combination of Wellbutrin XR & Adderall XR. The wellbutrin was added when my anxiety started to become more of a problem for me and it has worked really well in a combination of adderall. I would say give the wellbutrin a try, it has worked very well for a lot of people!

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

My daughter is unable to take a stimulant medication, as it brings out latent tics. She has just started taking Wellbutrin (no other meds). Do you think this will help on its own? Does anyone know which symptoms of ADHD Wellbutrin helps?

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

What about moodiness? Does it make any mood disorder worse, or should it help?

Wellbutrin is marketed as an antidepressent, so I would think (and hope) that it would help with moodiness.

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

I am a 34 year old female that has add and depression. I have also smoked cigs for almost 20 years.

I have taken concerta and adderall for the add - paxil and lexapro for the depression and tried many patches and gums to help quit smoking.

None of the above helped me.

Wellbutrin has been the answer to all my prayers. I have only been taking it for a month and in that time I have quit smoking, am able to organize things around my house, and am happy again!

As with any medications they affect people in different ways but for me Wellbutrin has been the answer.

Cool! Wellbutrin helped with my depression and ADD, but I couldn't take a high enough dose to completely alleviate my symptoms because of...

(you guessed it if you're a regular on this board and "know me")

insomnia. It's a recurring theme in my life <heavy sigh>

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

I am wondering how long it takes to get the full effect of Wellbutrin. My daughter started on 37.50 mgs on 2/15/04 for two weeks and then it was increased to 75 mgs around 3/1/04. She has since been on 75 mgs 11 days or so. When will we notice the full effect.

Could take as long as 3-4 weeks on full dose. Are you seeing any progress so far?

Re: Wellbutrin for ADHD

When I was first diagnosed with ADHD 3 years ago (I was 18) I was put on Wellbutrin and it didn't help me at all, I could not tell a difference at all. I've been on ritalin since then and it's made all of the difference in the world. Hope all works out
