i didn't think that my dh's going off the effexor would lead to such disaster, but it has ... our GP who is treating him said to go reduce the dosage 'til he felt he was depressed again, and now he's gone completely off it (about 5 days), is snarky and moody and depressed and rude and thinks weird things about me ... i can't stand it!!
he was never one to watch how his body "reacted" to meds, and our GP's saying "you know, 'til you get depressed again and then go up a little ..." was useless -- if i hadn't remembered it tonite, he'd not have put 2+2 together!! ever!! he's started it again (150mg), but i can't stand another day like this ... it's been so long, i just feel like running away...
is this a common thing among those afflicted with ADD?

Hi
My daughter has ADD and she takes adderral. This is the first time I've heard of someone taking effexor for ADD. My doctor told me it gives you energy. Just from my point of view, I wouldn't think it would be good to take for ADD. Did it work for him? My daughter takes a low dose of adderral. Only 10mg, and it has helped her trmendously. She does better in school and can concentrate alot more. When she is off of it, she does tend to have mood swings too. I think it is hard for people with ADD to concentrate, so that aggitates them more. Imagine having 50 million things going through your head at once. I get like this when I drink too much caffeine. I feel like I want to climb the walls. Imagine what they go through. And I'm told it's worse if your an adult. I hope he feels better soon. Has the doctor put him back on something? And, why did he take him off in the first place?

What's uncommon is how your GP is handling your husband's Effexor. I've never heard of the "decrease it till you get depressed, then add some back" method.
You gotta do what your comfortable with, but what I'd do is look for a specialist (a psychiatrist) to handle his meds.
Is he still on his other medications that you had mentioned?
