Sorry you haven't gotten an answer. I expect the majority of us with ADD kids struggle with this issue! All I've been able to figure out is that those backpacks must be monsters that *eat* homework!
When my most severly affected son was 9, I still had to look over his shoulder to be sure that homework got put in the backpack - reminding him just wasn't enough help. The other thing we did that helped was put a pocketed divider in the front of his binder that was only to be used for homework: if it was there when he came home, it was homework. If it was there when he got to school, it was to be turned in.
At that age, I tried to remember every weekend to help him go through his binder/backpack/desk and sort what to keep and what could be discarded.
As he's gotten older, he hasn't needed that much help (although organization is still an issue).
