Help! - ADD / ADHD Message Board

I am at the end of my rope! My 16 yr old daughter will not take her Adderall anymore, says she doesn;t like the way it makes her feel. SHe gets A's and B's, she feels that is ok, she does not need them.

THen after an argument with her about the phone.....again...she runs off, she then calls me to pick her up, feels the need to tattle on me so she calls her dad ( we have been divorced since 1995). HE says to me "wellwhat do you expect, you moved her again and HA! I told you she did not need the Adderall, she is making good grades". ( Yeah well she takes the birth control pill too......I could go on and on about that choice! Ooops ( in all sarcasm...she LOST her birth control pills anddhas not been on them for 2 weeks, she is to meet up with her bfriend next week who lives about 4 hours away from where I moved us from).

Sorry to rant but I am definately losing my mind. There are times when I wished her dad would take take and raise her,,,,,but no, he says she is better with me.....WHAT?!?!?! And she wonders why I divorced him.

what dosage is your daughter using and how long has she been using Adderall? Has she tried other meds that might not make her feel bad. how exactly does she feel? I remember seeing a program about the use and abuse of Adderall. One person said they are able to use it responsibly and has no problems, another had addiction problems and when out of school went to other drugs, still another said that he stopped taking them without his mother's knowledge - he wanted to see how he could do without them. That is one thing that you might mention to your daughter is that she is getting good grades Because she is taking Adderall (unless she always got good grades). Kind of hard to get someone to take meds they don't want to. maybe she needs a med vacation. have her go off for a while and reevaluate her needs.

Well, thanks so much for the input, I had thought of much the same, it is a good suggestion, except, she has decided to go live with her dad begginning in December at Christmas break. We called him and it is ok with him.

I guess I will use her new room in the house we just bought as her bdroom to use when she visits, other than that, I suppose it can be my combo arts and crafts/sewing room.
