Ritalin and mood - ADD / ADHD Message Board

HI, it's great to be on the boards now! I am 28 and my doctor recently placed me on Adderall, which helped me be more focused and not so "dreamy" feeling; when I went for my followup she changed it to Ritalin because my insurance (Medicaid) apparently doesn't like to pay for Adderall because it is expensive. Well, I don't really like the way I feel on it; I get shaky and jittery feeling and I get in an AWFUL mood when it begins to wear off. I take 20 mg twice a day. It doesn't seem to do much for my inattentiveness either. Any suggestions? Anyone else had these issues?

Talk to your doctor again. In some cases, doctors can argue the medical necessity of one drug over another and get medicaid to reverse their position of nonpayment. It's a slim possibility but it might be worth a try.

Good advice, index......I just don't think I can stay on the Ritalin, I just feel too bad on it. I'll talk to her when I go back and see what she can do. I was on the generic for Adderall anyway; I can't see what the huge complaint would be, but, guess I gotta take what comes. Thanks again!

My insurance didn't want to pay for Adderall either had to have my doctor write them saying it was the only med that would work for me and I needed to be on it. Took a few months in paperwork (you know insurance companies) but they approved it. Most times they can't deny you if the doctor says you need it, especially if you tried the cheaper options and they didn't work.
