Contolled Substance... - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Ok, so we all know that the ADD drugs are controlled substances. I'm curious how these are monitored in different areas.
So, where you are, do you have to have your prescription written out every time you want to refil, then pic it up from the dr's office and take it to the pharmacy?
How many days worth of meds can you get at a time?

My insurance is likely to change for a short period of time after i turn 19 and before i go to college. once i'm in college it will be normal again. but i'm wondering and hoping that i can still get my prescription for the same price, or that i can get more of it at a time so i don't have to refil so often.

what about you lot?

With ours, I call each month and have a new prescription written, then pick it up (or can have it mailed) and then take it to the pharmacy

It can only be for one month at a time, but occasionally our doctor will go ahead and write two different prescriptions (one dated for the next month, so atleast I only have to make a pharmacy trip that time

)

From what my doctor and pharmacist have told me, the prescription can only be for one month and is not refillable. You must always have a written prescription. It cannot be called in by a doctor. If a doctor trusts the way a patient handles their medication, he may write an extra prescription dated for the next month. He may or may not write on it, "Do not fill until (date). It's my understanding these are federal guidelines. If so, it will be the same in the any state in the U.S. Hope this helps.
