Help me please - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Hey Everyone,

I was just diagnosed with ADHD…. I have been taking clonazepam for a year now to help with my anxiety and panic attacks .. anyway my doc put me on concerta (18mg) .. after 2 days I noticed that I could do my school work so much better, but I also noticed that I was getting really bad anxiety attacks while being on concerta… anyway I stopped taking the pills… I am going to see the doc tomorrow, do any of you know of any of meds that will help like concerta but not give me these anxiety attacks?

You might want to talk to your doctor about Strattera. It is a non-stimulant ADD med. Reason being, stimulant meds (like Concerta, Adderall, Dexedrine, etc) can actually exacerbate anxiety (make anxiety worse). A non-stim ADD med (I believe Strattera is the only one), would help control your attention deficit & at the same time, it'd be much less likely to worsen your anxiety.

hey,

my doc gave me Effexor... he said that it is proven to work well with people with ADHD who have anzxity..

can anyone else talk about effexor?

Hi Aaron,

First, welcome to the board!

Are you still on the clonazepam for anxiety? The reason I ask is because it could very well be causing/worsening your ADD symptoms.

Effexor for ADD? That's unusual. There is always alot of talk about Effexor on the Depression board. You might want to post there...

thanks for the reply, and thanks for the welcome....

the clonnzapan calms me down and helps me fouces on school work... but i spoke to two diffrent doctors and they said that Effexor has proven to help people with ADHD with anzixty.... i just wanted to see if anyone else was taking effexor...

i also spoke with Ph.D., C.Psych and they said the same thing...

so if anyone has taken or taking this drug and you have ADHD and you found it to work please let me know...

other then that i'm really greatful for this board....... its nice
