Oh, I HATE this!
I've been telling my mom for the longest time that I suspect that I might (and she might too!) have ADD. She usually just laughs at me, or thinks it's silly that I would make an excuse for my "laziness".
But now that I told her a few days ago that I have an actual doctor's appointment to get evaluated, she got really upset and we almost started getting into an argument about it! She doesn't really believe in ADD at all. In her mind, she thinks that there's "no pill that will make you turn off the tv and stop watching The O.C. and go read your school books for hours".
I told her that ADD meds are not a "quick fix" to getting more "work done", but instead is supposed to help people who need extra aid in staying focused, and maintaing their attention span. OF course, if anyone starts taking medication for ADD they will NEED to train themselves to become more "proactive", and get rid of the bad habits of procrastination that they had when they were not on meds.
I just don't understand why my mom is so scared that I might have this disorder that she doesn't even want me tested! THat's like someone who suspects that they might have cancer refusing to even get tested! How
stupid is that?

Do people really think that ADD is some disease, or that you're "dumb" if you have it? I mean really...my mom is acting strange about this.
