I have been taking Adderall XR for three months now.I started at 10 mil.And i now take 30 Mil.The problem is that it does not last all day.5 or 6 hours and i start getting tired again.I was wondering if you can take half of the dose in the morning and then take the rest in the afternoon.Is there anyone that has done this before?I am 52 years old.

I've been on AdderallXR for about a year. I take 40 mg/day... 20 mg when I wake up, then another 20 mg capsule 6 hrs. later. I had the same problem as you with the med wearing off too fast, so my doctor recommended splitting my 40 mg dose into 2 doses. It works like a charm! The med works all day long & doesn't wear off till maybe an hour or 2 before bed. Although the XR is marketed as a "Once daily dose", my doctor actually informed me that for most people the med wears off after anywhere between 6-8 hrs. Since ADHD affects ALL aspects of a persons life, why take a pill that's only gonna get you through half the day?

How do you split it up?It is in a capsul.Is there a way you do it? Thanks,Roger

Actually, there's no splitting involved. I take two 20mg capsules a day, 6 hrs apart. AdderallXR is available in 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 25mg & 30 mg capsules. Next time you see your doctor, ask him for the 15 mg capsules so you can spread your 30mg dose over the course of the day (by taking 15mg twice/day instead of the whole 30mg at one time). It's kind of difficult to split up the contents of the capsules evenly, but in the mean time, you could try doing that.
