Ready to give up!

My name is Don,
I have a 9 year old daughter that has been diagnosed with adhd inattentive type. Her mother and I have been separated for over 6 years now. She has also been diagnosed with depression. Her mother is adamant that she is Adhd and wants to medicate but I don't feel she is. All the problems that her mother has with her that would fall under the symptoms of Adhd she does not display when she is with me. Mother has primary custody but I did have her for the first part of this last school year. She made great academic progress and neither her teachers nor her doctor here seem to think she is Adhd. The one thing I DO know about Adhd is that it's not something you can voluntarily turn on and off. Can anyone maybe shed some light on my dilemma? Thanks.

Hi Don, my name is tracy, and I have 3 children. My middle child who is 9 has ADHD,and so do I. Sometimes it feels like the blind leading the blind! But after alot of meds, doctors, and best of all learning how to live with it. STRUCTURE is key. Same routine everyday.(well the best you can do) Also you have to constantly refocus your child. And please, get a book or something off the web that will guide you with steps to help your child and YOUR sanity! REMEMBER, REDIRECT your child. We tend to be all over the place and loud! GOOD-LUCK! P.S. stay away from stimuli, we feed off it.

Hi Don, I'm sorry. This is Tracy again (ADHD) I now know your situation. Alot of children are misdiagnosed. I have a feeling it was a cry out for your wifes attention. I do beleive she is deppressed though. Its hard to get a proper diagnoses when thy change everyday. Don't worry things will fall in place, and you'll figure out she's bored! So why worry now? Life is to short and she's gonna want her privacy. Love her when thy are still small. Best of luck!
