My almost 15yo has been on Strattera for almost 2 years, although we are currently weaning him off.

It has helped him tremendously in 2 ways. First, it really toned down his hyperactivity. He had been sooooo hyper that he was shunned by all the other kids. He had no-one to eat lunch with and no friends until he started Strattera. It calmed him down enough to make him more socially acceptable. There is alot to be said for that.


Second, it has had a mild antidepressant effect on him which has been good.

Where it didn't help him much was with his concentration. We ended up adding a low dose of Metadate (a long-acting form of Ritalin) to help with that. I've seen alot of people say the same (that Strattera helps more with hyperactivity than concentration). Others have said that they had the opposite experience. In other words, individual response varies alot.

With my son, it was a couple of months before we saw full benefit. He initially experienced sleepiness and mild nausea with loss of appetite but those passed fairly quickly. He never has had any trouble with urination.
