Re: has my little girl got adhd

It could possibly be some as to ADHD, or even something as to ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder).

What are her social skills like? To both peers and adults?
How about her concentration?
Any impulsiveness?
Does she have any unusual behavior other than tantrums?
Does she not like to be touched? Or close to someone?
Does she have any learning difficulties?
Does she have trouble with senses; noises too loud, cloths hurt, lights too bright?

It might be a good idea to see a childrens pyschiatrist. It could be a range of things, and if she needs medications or therapy you don't want to jump into anything blind.

I can't say if she has ADHD, a conduct disorder, or even an Autistic disorder. But I can say that, if you think something may be wrong, and she is having difficulties with school, friends and home life, it would be a good idea to see a professional to seek help.

SGH

You won't know if your daughter has ADHD or ADD until she has been diagnosed by a Psychiatrist. There are a series of questions you will be asked. I think it's kind of horrible the school would tell you that your child NEEDS to be on medication. Alot of people don't believe in medication, what if you were one of them?

One thing I've noticed with children who are "hyper" (and I am very guilty of this) is if you treat your children like "bad" children (and I'm not saying you do this) other people will see them the same way. I am a "yeller" (my 15 yo was diagnosed with adhd when she was 8 and I was constantly yelling), nobody liked having us around, yet a friend of mine had a child with a (severe physical/mental disability who was more disruptive and her mother was calm and loving and just brought tears to the whole rooms' eyes watching how she handled every situation lovingly. I'm not saying we aren't supposed to yell at our kids, I only know I am VERY GUILTY and she taught me to see my mistakes. If I could have acted more like my friend I know others would have been more supportive.

On a different note, what you could do while visiting friends is carry a small bag of toys in the trunk of your car. Let your daughter have one special toy for herself and share the others with her "friends". Maybe that will encourage the other kids to share their toys with her.

I hope your daughter gets better and you find the right treatment plan for her. It sounds like her Mommy loves her alot so I'm sure she'll do just fine~!

Re: has my little girl got adhd

Littlecherubs, my heart goes out to you. I would definitely take her to a child psychiatrist and maybe even an educational psychologist to get to the heart of the matter. I would also check with your pediatrician to see if you can get her tested for food allergies. It could be something simple or it could be something more complex that requires therapy and medication, but reach out to as many sources as possible to get the root of the problem. Don't leave any stone unturned until you find an answer. If you hit a road block with your doctors keep pushing and change doctors if necessary because this is your daughters health and emotional well being at stake. You have to advocate for her because she is probably just as torn up about all of this as you are...the little cutie. I wish you all the best and follow up to let us know your progress.
