absorption of adderall

I got an odd problem...I switch back and forth between 10mg and 15 mg adderall cuz of my tolerance. I get the generic kind: amphetamine salts cuz its $160 cheaper a month. But majority of the time when I take the 10mg I think Im not absorbing it because I feel nothing from it I could fall asleep 1 hour after taking it so I would take another 10mg pill and then another and there will still be no effect, and this is when I avoid intake of acidic foods and beverages.
When i break a 15mg pill in half and only take half, the half a pill works 45min after intake. So I know its not a tolerance issue since 2x10mg has no effect and 0.5x15mg has effect.
So...would I absorb 10mg better if I crush it up?

Re: absorption of adderall

Crushing it probably wouldn't make a difference (just not the XR version FYI. It would). I've crushed mine, let it desolve in my mouth before swallowing (only because I poped one without realizing I didn't have a bottle of water handy) and i didn't see any difference in effect either way I took it.

I'm not sure about the 10 -vs- .5x15 phenomonon you described. I hate to post and then pawn it off to the doc but I', drawing a blank on this one.

ALSO... I haven't heard about alternating dosages to prevent tolerances. My doc says take a break from them every once in a while (I only take mine as needed which normally not on the weekends or days off). Is alternating the dosages what the doc is doing to keep you from developing a tolerance?

Re: absorption of adderall

yeah i was taking 15mg and then i tried to wean myself off them because i was afraid of building tolerance and afraid of amphetamine addiction, so my doctor put me own to 10mg for a lil bit. it did bring my tolerance down for awhile but my tolerance has built up again. now he just prescribes 15mg again 3 times a day but told me i can take them im halves

Re: absorption of adderall

xOticsin,

Ideally we should feel nothing from Adderall. It should do nothing more than give us the ability to control our thoughts - keep those unwanted distractive thoughts at bay.

Try judging whether your Adderall is working by tracking the relative difficulty of a task such as reading, writing or arithmetic. No pun intended, really, whatever you know is difficult for you without it. For the sake of argument, let's say it is writing. You may find you can bang out a "War And Peace" length doc in no time even though you feel nada from your Adderall.

Re: absorption of adderall

Hi, I too had the same problem; the 10mg would do nothing for me after a while. SO i got the 15mg (i use generic too) and was taking half that.

Now what i do is get the 20mg generic. What I do is take 10mg before class, which I dont feel it that well, but it keeps me focused. Then when I get out I wil take another 5mg and maybe 5 more depending how much I need to study.

But if I am going to study right away I will just take 15mg, or I will take 10mg then another 5mg like 15 min later. I dont like the feel of it sometimes. can be too strong.

However, maximim i take in one day is 20mg even though its prescribed to me to take 2x a day. I do what I feel I need to do. Doctors do not know your body or mind. Today I took 10mg before class then 5mg after. Sometimes If i dont want to take anymore I will just have a soda, or a cup of coffee.

Oh yeah, absorption; if you take it with a meal its obviously not going to absorb as well. It has nothign to do with 10mg or 15mg. The best is either take 15mg with food, or if no food just 10mg. But i dont take it on empty stomach ever!! Also crushing it up, that will just make it kick in faster becaue your stomach doesnt have to break it down. These pills do break down fast though becaue they are not coated.
Hope that helps. pm me if you have anymore questions
