omega 3

my son has been diagnosed with adha since about 9 yrs old
we have had him on ritalin and now he is on concerta 36.
i was told to give him the omega 3 pills which is fish oils ( dont know if its available everywhere) but they say it has stuff in it that is better then any kind of pills..they say the oils stimulate the brain in the natural way.
anyways it seems that his meds are doing nothing...his marks in school suck pretty bad he had nothing over a c- ( hes in grade 6)..he goes into junoir high next year and i am scared to death that he will not excel because his marks are so bad now ( in nova scotai they do not keep kids back in elementry school)
has any1 heard of this omega 3 and do they think it would work?

Re: omega 3

Worth a try. I would taper off the drugs very slowly and be patient. Things like fish oil and better nutrition, motivation, etc. will not be noticably effective, it takes longer than drugs would.

Smile Re: omega 3

When my son was on medication... on it for 3 years total... He was also taking 14 different supplements in a day in order to keep his med intake low.. I didn't want to medicate him.. but.. his thinking wasn't right at the age of 7 and thoughts of suicide...
Omgea 3 is a great supplementation for anyone really.. Its ingredients is the essential fatty acids... something that are low in the human brain.. Omega 3 is able to help with hyper activity, all together control of thoughts per say.. It isn't a cure.. nothing is a cure...
My son was on: Omega 3, Evening Primrose oil, Calcium/Zinc/Magnesium, Ginko, and a whole new way of nutrition.. This stabalized him fairly well.. Yes.. we could see huge change.. He was taking roughly 4000mg of Omega 3 in one day.. What his body didn't need.. he would release thru urine... You do have to have alot of patience for natural supplements to work.. They aren't stimulants like the medications are.. But.. in turn.. if you add some Omega 3 with his meds.. you will see change.. give it a good 2 to 3 weeks though... and give it in high doses... Go online and search the Omgea 3 and ADHD.. you will be amazed at what you find... it is a great supplement...

I have been down the med/supplement road... it is worth it.. and changing the diet is such a great positive for growing kids.. My son is 11 today.. he is med free thanks to his changing of diet plans and just the way we go about things with him and his discipline actions...
Good Luck.. your doing awesome by asking questions... your on the right track.. If you decide to take him off meds.. go slowly... and make sure you keep in check with his doctors... Some meds aren't easy to come off of..

I have used omega 3 for my son and seen a big difference. There is this brand called peachykeen or berrykeen they are flavored and don't have the after taste and are especially for children. I also give my son Attend by Vaxa which I have been very pleased with the results. We still have issues which I am working on. Our family is going to try a low carb. diet and limit all pasta, breads, and refined sugar and see if there is any change in behavior and attention. If I can hellp with any of the above products let me know.
