Has anyone ever heard of Focalin (a type of Ritalin) causing headaches, or experienced it themselves or through their kids? My son started Focalin 5mg about 3 weeks ago and about a week later started getting headaches almost every afternoon. If I give him Tylenol they go away, but I just was wondering if it's the med since he has never complained of this before. Thanks in advance for your responses.
Hi, my grandson is on focalin 10mg. He does very good on it. We tried adderall xr and all it did was make him mean and angry. Focalin has effects just like the others including headaches. I always make him eat breakfast before he takes it so he won't get heartburn. This is his third medicine maybe yhis one will work, how old is your child? My grandson is almost eight. Good luck.
My son and I were both on Focalin since 2003. It worked Great for us until just 2 months ago. My oldest who is now 11 started losing his hair so we took him off and tried out the slow release concerta which works great for him this time. He did get headaches once in awhile and also stomach pains. I had to make sure he ate something in the morning when he took it. As for me I am still on it and it still works great for me. He was on 20 mg a day and me 30 mg a day for long days and 20 mgs for a normal day. I go to school full time and work full time so my first dose is at 5 AM and my third is at 4 to get me through my last class which is over at 10:00.
When my son was diagnosed at 5 years we spent 3 years searching for the best med for his ADHD. I finally took a trip to a specialist in Chicago and he put him on Focalin and it worked awesome. Loss of hair is one of the side effects, we do not know why it took him 3 years to develope this but it did. Now that he is older the Concerta seems to be doing good. We will see when he starts school again. I just pray the Concerta will work as good as the Focalin did!!
Here is the info of who we saw. I was very happy with him. The best doc we ever went to and we have been through alot!! My hubby deployed to IRAQ so that was my excuse to go up that way. We traveled from El Paso, TX and I am glad I did. My Mom and Dad live in Naperville and they heard nothing but good about him so I just gave it a try. Hope this helps. Shelly
