Ritalin SR 40 mg a day?

Has anyone had Ritalin SR 40 mg a day? that is what the dr. said for my daughter to now take, but I tried to do some research on the net, I havent had any luck with finding if that is a common amount to be prescribed. I just wonder if anyone here has had the similiar dosage prescribed to them...

That is a common dosage for that medication, however, it is very high for a beginning dose! Most docs start with a lower dose and work up to 40mg.

Has your daughter been on Ritalin (or another stimulant) for a while? How old is your daughter?

I'm still suprised Rital SR is even made since Ritalin LA was meant to replace it. From what I've read the SR pill doesn't reliably release the medication.

Re: Ritalin SR 40 mg a day?

hi, she has only been on Ritilan, well actually the generic form which is methylphenid, for a couple of months now, she was on strettara for about 3 months but she lost a bunch of weight, then her heart was racing so we stopped for a couple of months. Then the doc actually had her try effexor, that was a nightmare, and then 20 mg of Ritalin, she didnt notice anything helping her, until they started her on 40 mg of Ritalin. We are both sick of her doctor always wanting to switch her medicines, and while Im looking for another doc, I was just wondering if anyone had luck on 40 mg. of the Ritalin SR, she is actually taking two 20 mg. at the same time in the a.m...

Re: Ritalin SR 40 mg a day?

40 mg of SR is actually pretty common since she would be getting 20mgs immediately and 20 more a few hours later.
