Lead Paint and ADD?

Apparently the chinese have been using it iand they make most toys for Mattel, Fisher Price and others .I wonder how many years this has been going on and how it could contribute to some of these disorders children are suffering from. Now there are massive recalls but maybe too late for some.

Re: Lead Paint and ADD?

Believe it or not, I've actually had both of my kids tested for mercury AND lead poisoning. Both were negative.

Let me edit this to say that it is true that lead poisoning CAN look like ADD as can a whole host of other things. The forerunners are asthma, sleep deprivation, and depression.

Re: Lead Paint and ADD?

Jennita,

Lead has been used in house paint for far longer than people have been buying toys for their children, from China or anywhere. Children have been damaged from flaking old wall paint for a very long time (a hundred years or more?). The physical and mental symptoms of lead poisoning are very different from the symptoms of ADD. Good try, though!

Re: Lead Paint and ADD?

I'm sure it's caused many hazards, ADD like or other. And I really didn't say it was the only or absolute cause for every case of ADD because...even ADD itself is not an absolutely biologically confirmed disease or disorder so how could I confirm this as an absolute? So my try is as good as any out there including the psychiatric professionals tries at figuring this thing out.

However, there has no doubt been some brain damages incurred, as with any toxin, to some poor kids out there and it's a shame that even in this age when we know what is toxic, what should not be used to make toys, that this incessant outsourcing our country is doing is causing such harm to save a buck!!!

I know, lets use mercury laced metal parts too, this way they can choke and be poisoned but at least the chinese work cheap and that toy is only 4.50 instead of 5 bucks.

UGH.

Re: Lead Paint and ADD?

I personally have had high levels of lead. And since it has a
long half-life in bones I likely still have fairly have levels from the rebound effect of it being liberated from bone.

Not sure what degree if any it could play in the ADD/ADHD or inattention and hyperactivity associated with other conditions. But there is a very large number of studies linking higher lead levels to alot of behavioral and health problems.

Exposure at age 6 and under usually causes permanent damage. Thats why there should be a close to zero lead content in things young kids are near.
