I think Ritalin made me so depressed! - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Has anybody experienced this while on this drug???? I've been cryin a lot lately and just can't stop. Will my depression improve if I stop takin this drug? Pls help!

It could very well be that you are reacting to the Ritalin by having depression. The problem is that everyone reacts differently to the various meds, and doctors can't usually tell beforehand which drug will suit you and which ones will not work (or have unwanted side effects). I do fine on Ritalin, but it sure isn't for everyone! Please phone your doctor and tell him/her that it looks like Ritalin is giving you depression, and ask to discuss another drug to try.

My son gets depression from most of the ADD meds including Ritalin. It goes away when he stops taking them.

Right now he's doing OK on a low-dose of Daytrana (the patch). He's been on it for a few weeks and no depression.
