Traveling outside of US with Adderall prescription...Is it legal to do? - ADD / ADHD Message Board

Ok, I am getting ready to visit family in Mexico. I have an adderall prescription and take it daily to maintain its effectiveness. I know the active ingredients are amphetamines and I am sure a dog is going to hit on my carry on at some point whether entering Mexico, or re-entering the US.

Do I need to get a statement from my doctor saying that I need the medication, or is the prescription bottle enough to avoid any problems? I am traveling with my daughter and do not want to get caught up in any bizzare amphetamine trafficking accusations.

Can anyone share any insight on past experiences with this?

Haven't heard anything on this yet. My trip is comming up and I am a little worried. Can anyone share any thoughts?

Call or visit one of the Mexican consulates. Ask specifically about their custom regulations on prescription Adderall. The follow them to a T. Even if the consulate people should say, "no problem," don't count on it. Show the custom people your prescription bottle ... the moment you pull in the gate.

You do not want to end up in a Mexican slammer. Be careful.

Call first, trust me. Have some friends that were put in the slammer for narcotics whilst in Mexico. Pre-arrange all of it first, for your own protection.

Can I ask what were the particular circumstances and why they were incarcerated?
