| Re: Which med improves the ODD part of ADHD
Do you mean OCD. I have ADHD with obsessive but not compulsive thinking. Its horrible. I have to be thinking about something (this is very common with people with ADHD/ADD as their brains are in hyper-mode). The reason for this is their pre-frontal cortex, the area of the brain that regulates the rest of the brain is under-active. The frontal cortex acts as an inhibitor and therefore controls the level of activity in the other areas of the brain. When the frontal cortex is under-active the other parts of the brain run in hyper mode (nothing is restricting them), so all that extra electrical energy has to manifest somehow, most ADHD/ADDrs process this extra energy in day dreaming. This is the reason for the lack of focus, its very hard to maintain focus as the force of the day dreams are too strong, you can literally lose hrs in day dreams.
I have never used drugs as they do not cure anything, they simply cover up the problem and in the long run will cause a lot more.
I am looking into a biofeedback device called HEG. There quite pricey but apparently excellent for effectively curing the problem (the pre-frontal cortex). The device encourages one to draw blood into that region of the head, by doing this the brain builds new neural pathways and the frontal cortex ressumes its role as a regulator. The most common cause of the frontal cortex switching down is chronic stress or a trauma of somekind. I suspect mine was from a head trauma. The shock of that I think knocked me into fight or flight and its when we get stuck in the emergency mode that the frontal cortex switches down, its usually just a temporary thing for real emergencys but if the stress or chronic or if the trauma was a particular shock then we can get stuck in this mode.
I'm on here as I want to find if anyone else struggles with obsessive thinking with ADHD. For me I can actually meditate with nearly no thought for up to an hour which is really good but at the same time the "urgency" that builds up in my body when I do this is so intense that by the end of the meditation my body is burning, like its on fire, its so horrible I have to do some thinking and the sensation reduces, still noticable but far less intense. I understand why it happens, its the extra electrical energy that has to manifest somehow, if you take away the thought it will over fire through the nervous system making the nerves over active to the point that they burn. Nasty stuff but I am looking forward to resolving all of this with the HEG. I would be interested to here if anyone has experienced anything like the "urgency" I am talking about.
Regards
Alex
