Depression crash - ADD / ADHD Message Board

When I come down from Adderall I feel very depressed. I am paying too much money to afford an antidepressant for this problem. When I'm on it everything is fine but coming down from it I get depressed. I hate knowing that every night I am going to be in a depression. Is there anything I could do to avoid the depression I get when it starts wearing off?

An extended-release formula might help it wear off more slowly, so there isn't such a crash.

Ask doc about a side of either Wellbutrin or an SSRI. Lexapro gets 5 stars from most people. Lean toward the Lex if you have a long history of depression.

It's going to be hard figuring out what to do with this. I can barely afford Adderall as it is now being I have no insurance. To add another pill would just be way too much. I have to try all my other options first. I haven't been exercising, I don't go outside in the sun ever, I stay up all night and sleep all day long. These things MAY be contributing to my crash.

I don't remember my crash ever being this bad until these past few weeks which is really weird. On Adderall I am focused on DOING things so I am mentally calm and concentrated. When the pill wears off I don't do anything, I just THINK 24/7. Dwell on every bad thing going on in my life.

Your Adderall is working on ADHD and depression. It's anti-depression properties poop out quickly - probably why you are experiencing depression now and weren't a few weeks ago. The depression will most likely progressively reassert itself - been there done that.

I believe your "feeling so good" is NOT feeling depressed based on your description. You used language such as "not abnormally good," etc. It's like getting over a wicked headache. Feels soooooooooo good. Normal feels relatively fabulous.

You can get generic Celexa (citalopram hydrobromide) for $4 (FOUR DOLLARS) for a month's supply at Walmart. Check it out.

Adderall will not poop out on ADHD efficacy for years if ever. It has to do with neurotransmitters. Beyond me.

Incidently, Wallmart has 60 tabs of 20mg Barr Adderall for about $50 per month.
