New to Site...Newly Diagnosed, ADD

Hello all, I am new to the site, new to Add diagnosis I went to two Drs.

So... First doctor, told me I was depressed gave me Wellbutrin (I decided to quit smoking, so I was going to start CHANTIX, he blew it off). I went to this doctor for an ADD diagnosis, which my therapist told me was my prob. At the end of the "session" I said...well, what about the ADD? He told me we will address that another time. i left, agitated.

home called another doctor, they got me in within 3 days told me NOT to take WELLBUTRIN till I am seen. So I go to new Doctor, right away... I like him Well, he smiles at me after I get through my initial talk, interrupting him through some of his questions. I say... so am I depressed, or do I have ADD. He said i knew within the first 10 minutes, whew.

Some of my things are...I leave the house only to come back 2-4 times bec I forget just about everything. I interrupt, bec I will forget what I am going to say, I am a Stay at Home Mother (2 year old twins and 5 yr old in full day Kindergarten) that does NOT get anything done. I blame it on my husbands mom be/c she walks around with Windex in her hand, and I can't be like her. But the truth is, he is right. i try to clean, turns into an ordeal. if I do get something done, It is NUTS be.c cleaning the kitchen easy right??? well I start putting dishes away, then it turns into reorganizing the drawers, then POTS and Pans, then before I know it, the rest of the kitchen is STILL a mess, but i have some nice silverware drawers. I cook (LOVE TO COOK), and it is like a war, I have been known to start making 3-4 things at once, and I am left with an awesome dinner, even more awesome is the mess that follows. When I do my upstairs, I always manage to redo the clothes, the toys and floor are the probs, but I cant stick with it and go to the clothes.

Well... whatever, Here is my thing he diagnosed me with ADD.

One of his questions kind of threw me off... He asked if I Love COCAINE or hate it. I was thinking should I answer this. I figured he asked me for a reason. Truth is, I LOVE the IDEA of cocaine BUT I HATE what happens when I used to do it. he then asked if I am the party girl, when I did it, would I go out and stay having fun, OR would I find a corner with some people and stay lowkey. I guess I remembered what the FUN part of cocaine was and said PARTY (I guess I forgot about the last 4 hours of the party I sat in a corner or chair barely talking), he was surprised and said he will give me RITALIN 20MG Generic Three times a day.

Well I started and was going good, BUT... the crazy thing was I was tired, I mean even taking naps. I worked in a pharmacy and knew that it is a stimulant. Well, I wasnt too worried UNTIL, I worked at the hospital i work a 3-11 shift it is usually fine. By 9:00 I could have passed out I was exhausted. On the drive home I was getting kind of like tunnel vision and had to call my hubby to keep me up.

The pharmacist I work with, said I was probably crashing from the Ritalin, I made an appointment with my Doc, had my visit Monday and started yesterday. ADDERALL 20mg Generic 3 times a day. I decided to take it same time as RITALIN 8:30 1:30 5:30. I did pretty good throughout the day, Cleaned the whole kitchen, made a dinner, cleaning up as I went along, did other things too. Well, at 9pm, kiddies were in bed, hubby was watching scary movie, I jumped on POGO and played games. I couldn't put it down I was like in a trance with this crap. I was jacked up! I couldn't really talk, kind of like what happens when I did coke. So, I was definately tired, but I couldn't bring myself to go up to bed. AND!!! when I did go to bed, I was up for a bit, couldnt go right down. Honestly, it was cocaine without the nose problems. that is why I HATE cocaine.

Then, my hubby had to get up early TODAY (yes all less than 24 hrs, I am sorry) 5:30 I heard alarm going off. I couldn't get back to sleep, i was itching my head thinking i had headlice (I do not) I could not get back to sleep, so for the first time in YEARS, I got out of bed 6:30, took HALF of the pill, made lunch, got clothes out for kiddies, and cleaned the bit that I didn't notice yesterday (Not much) I got my daughter to school ontime, everyone dressed for the day.

Came back and found this site. i know this thread is outofwhack. I would appreciate if I could get anything and I will not take offense to any of it, i just need to know, was RITALIN working, is Adderall not the thing for me? I am thinking of skipping that last dose and increasing as I get used to it, IDK, i did 10mg in the AM will do 20MG at 12:30 and thinking of skipping that last.

Thank you for checkin this out

Re: New to Site...Newly Diagnosed, ADD

Okay, several things:

1) We have attention problems too. Skipping lines between paragraphs makes long posts easier to read.

2) It certainly sounds to me like you have ADD

3) If you were literally bouncing up and down half the night, your dose was WAY too high. Definitely, definitely talk to your doctor and cut back. The right dose shouldn't make you feel super-energetic, just a bit more focused. (think one cup of coffee, not the whole urn!)

4) Once you get the right medicine at the right dose, then the real work starts. The medicine only gives you the ability to pay attention and be organized, you have to learn organizational skills, too.

You might want to find an ADD coach. (Your doctor sounds very good, I'm sure he can recommend someone.) He or she could maybe help you figure out how to develop a reasonable organizational plan for your home, and guide you in getting things there. Do you keep a date book or calendar? Do you have trouble remembering when the kids are supposed to be where?

If your "coach" is really a therapist who tells you your house is messy due to some sort of repressed resentment of your parents, walk out and don't go back, cause she doesn't understand ADD at all!

Welcome to the board!

And my lunch break is over, so back to work.
